Judy Green has been in the teaching business from a while. Teaching English is a difficult balance between fun and learning. In her years she’s seen plenty of good writers, Amara Crock is a challenge however. Amara is in her home room and her Sophomore English class, a bright girl that shines like the sun. Amara’s storytelling skills are unparalleled but she struggles translating her vocal storytelling to paper. It doesn’t help that the poor girl is dyslexic. Amara’s stories are enrapturing whether they are fiction or just an experience from her home. Honestly Judy feels like she's known each member of Amara’s family for a lifetime despite never meeting them. Until tonight that is, parent teacher night. The kids and their parents or guardians come and meet with the teachers to discuss their school. Unfortunately, Amara’s father pasted away in a freak storm, it’s unclear what happened to her mom but as far as Judy knows she doesn’t have any legal rights with her daughter so her half sister has custody. Aura Page, Amara talks about her like she hung the moon and stars in the sky. From what she’s heard Aura is a hardworking woman with a strong love for her family, she’s honestly excited to meet her. Once the doors open everyone rushes to their children’s home rooms, they have an hour here before meeting with the teachers, Amara, surprisingly walks in alone.
“Amara, where is your sister?” Judy asks stepping over to the single desk.
“Hi Mrs. Green. Since Derek and I don’t have the same homeroom Aura has to split her time. She’ll be with Derek from the first half an hour then she’ll come here. Probably bring Derek too, he hates not having anyone to talk to.” Nodding, she takes the answer and starts walking around greeting everyone. After half an hour the door opens again. In the doorway is a sophomore boy with darker skin, she remembers seeing him with Amara in the hallways along the rest of their friends. Behind the boy is a young woman, not even in her 20s if Judy were to guess. She’s light skinned with a subtle tan, brunette hair pulled back in space buns. She’s wearing a lavender fit and flair dress with a black leather jacket over that hangs off her shoulders like it’s made for someone else and silver rectangle reading glasses tucked into the top of one of the pockets. Black wedges that click as she steps in the room and looks around.
“Hi. Are you Mrs. Green? I’m Aura Page, Amara Crock's sister.” She asks, light cheerful voice woven with a hint of a British accent, looking at Judy who stands in shock. She hadn’t expected her to be so young, shaking out of it she answers.
“Yes, I’m Mrs. Green. It’s nice to finally meet you Ms. Page. Amara is right over here.” Aura smiles, her hazel eyes crinkling at the edges and steps over to Amara’s desk the boy following. Judy makes a couple more rounds then makes her way to their tables. Amara and the boy are conversing in what she recognizes as sign language and Amara’s face splits into a mischievous smile as Judy arrives.
“So Aurie, is that Reyna’s jacket?” *1* She asks, Aura’s face flushes red and she shoves Amara.
“Hello, I suppose you’ll want to get straight to business with the time we missed?” Judy asks the lively table once the last of the snickers die down.
“Ah, yes. Sorry about that. It’s great to meet you Mrs. Green. You already know myself and Amara but the boy with us is another half siblings of ours, Derek Linch. I know, our mother must have been quite busy, hm?” Aura jokes. By the end of the night Judy has a solid impression of Aura Page. She’s a characteristic young woman with great ambitions and a caring sister. She’s obviously had a big impact on Amara and Judy can tell that by the way Amara perks up at her praise Aura has made an effort to encourage Amara to reach for the stars. Waving them out she sees Aura wrap an arm around each of her siblings and press a kiss to both their heads, and thinks to herself that Amara’s hero stories had truly done Aura’s nature a great justice.
