Rainy Days

Caitlyn

“Caitlyn! Get up, you are going to be late for school!” Mother yells into my room. I groan and bury my face deeper into my pillow.

“Yes, mother.” My voice is groggy. I stayed in bed a little longer, finally deciding to get up. Every step felt like a magnet, wanting to pull me back to bed. After entering my closet, I picked an outfit for the day. It was a plain white dress. It had a sweetheart neckline, ruffled sleeves, and a cinched waist. The fabric stopped just a fraction above my mid thigh. It wasn't that cold today, so I decided to pair it with a cream knitted cardigan.

I sprayed a bit of my favorite Vanilla perfume, did a little makeup and walked out of my room. The time was 7:45, just enough time to get to school. There was a little granola bar for history in my bag. Mr. Rielik is pretty chill about it, plus none of the teachers say anything or report me because I'm a Kiramman.

“Good Morning, Steb.”A fake smile is shown on my face. I have mastered the art of a fake but realistic smile. I close the car door as he begins to drive me to school. My homework last night was pretty easy, just a few questions here and there, some past work. Steb doesn't talk much other than the occasional hello and goodbye, I wave him off and walk into the building. Bringing out my phone, I went to text Vi as I walked to my locker.

You:

Hey, thanks for giving me your

 number. It's Caitlyn btw. ☺️

Vi:

Yw, I thought you might

miss me. 😉

I put my phone away after her message, a light glow on my cheeks. I open my locker grabbing my books for the morning.

“Caitlyn!” Maddie came up to me. I give her a slight nod, and then remember what she said to Vi.

“Why did you tell Vi that we are together?” I almost snapped. My brows are furrowed together and one of my firsts are clenched on my locker door, my knuckles turning white.

“Did she tell you that? I assure you, I didn't.” It was an oblivious lie, but the look on Maddie’s face almost made me believe her. I’m not that gullible though, I know everyone's little tell. Maddie’s is that she grows too concerned to the point where she’s trying to convey something too hard.

“It’s almost time for class.” I say coldly. She scoffs and walks away. Maddie is the worst kind of topsider, the kind where they think they can have anything they want because it makes them look good. Well news flash that's not how the world works, i'm not just some token to keep in your pocket.

I decided to give her the silent treatment, she can apologize if she really wants to be my friend. The anger starts to bubble up, but it goes away quickly when surprise takes over. When I close my locker door I jump. “What the hell!”

“Sorry. Didn't mean to scare you, Cupcake.” Vi said standing where my locker door had been open. Vi was wearing a fitted black sleeveless tank top, her arms were toned and muscular. She paired it with highwaisted black jeans, and a belt that was black and silver buckle. It cinched her waist perfectly.

“Like what you see, Cupcake? You’re staring.” She said with a smirk. I couldn't see the rest of her outfit before she caught me. The heat rises from my neck to my cheeks.

Dammit, focus Caitlyn. I snap out of my daze focusing on my response.

“I was not staring.” I shifted my weight, slightly uncomfortable. I guess that's my tell. I try to brush off the blush that's making its way up to my cheeks. “Anyway, more pressing matters, did you hear my conversation with Maddie?”

“You definitely were,” Vi teases as we begin to walk our way to class.  “And no. I arrived as she was leaving. She did give me a death glare though.”

“Oh really, because she just tried to lie to my face about not saying anything to you about her being my ‘girlfriend’”

Vi raises her eyebrows. “We have history, right?” Her tone is soft but there is something unreadable that she's not sharing, then with a quick shift she adds “I need to use the bathroom so if Mr. Rielik asks where I am, cover for me?”

“Mhm, i'll even save you a seat.” I start to open the classroom door.
“You sure you're not falling for me?” she says, flashing a wink and a smirk. I stand still for a moment, I then take in the rest of her. Vi was also wearing a pair of black leather boots,  she had a thin silver chain and an earring chain on her left ear that went from her lobe to her cartilage. In her hands was a red leather jacket.

I rolled my eyes at her fashion choice, and walked into the class taking my seat. I try to ignore the way that my heart soars and the way my stomach opens into a pit of butterflies.

“Hey, Sprout.” Jauce says, I give him a sweet smile. Jayce is basically a brother to me, the first person I came out to even, and he’s my best friend.

“Hey Jayce, I'm afraid I'm replacing you as my desk partner.” I say with a mock sorry face.

“With who?” He gave me a brow. “Whoever they are, they must be special. Omg did you finally meet the girl of your dreams?”

“Are you guys talking about me?” Vi says, joining our conversation.

“Do you always have to be so full of yourself?” I laugh, like actually laugh. It happened yesterday too when Vi and I were in the nook. I snapped out of my thoughts at her answer.

“I'm not full of myself, this is just confidence baby.” I roll my eyes with a smile on my face. The heat on my face grows slightly.

“Anyway, this seat is taken. Find another one Jayce, maybe sit with your girlfriend?” I joke

“You know I don’t like her like that.” He says with a scoff and then walks away, He takes a seat next to Mel casually chatting with her.

Vi takes her seat next to me. We chatted a little then the class started and Mr. Rielik told us that we could work on the project. We all got out of laptops and textbooks. The room was filled with the sound of typing and age flipping.

I grabbed my granola bar and ate it quietly. A few heads turned in my direction at the sound but then turned back to their work. Vi leaned into her bag grabbing out a notebook and tearing a piece out of it. This time more heads turned, including the teacher, they focused on the project again after Vi put her notebook back. She began writing on it with a red pen and then passed it to me.

Are you wearing perfume?

Yes, why?

Because it smells like a cupcake, Cupcake.

Thank you?

Your welcome!☺

Go back to focusing on your work Vi.

How could I focus when a beautiful girl is sitting right next to me?

The heat rises again and it’s probably noticeable, I can tell by the way Vi is trying to hide back a laugh. I focus on my work, taking notes from the next book.I didn't get much done before the bell rang for our next class. We all packed away our things and headed out of the door.

“So how much did you get done?” I asked Vi as we made our way to Geography.

“Not much, I was too distracted by this pretty girl that sits next to me.” She says with a wink in my direction. I shoved her away playfully as we made our way to our next class.

The rest of the morning was boring, Vi and I would pass notes back and forth until it was time for break. We had Geography and French, which were pretty boring since I already knew most of it. I was watching the clock go by, waiting until I could go back to the nook.

Hey when this class is over, hang out in the nook?

Yeah I bought my addition, it just won't be here until tomorrow.

I couldn't wait until I got to see what she was going to add. Each thing added to the nook expresses a lot about a person, something that makes them feel comfortable and happy. The bell rang and I couldn't wait to leave the class. I packed away my things and slung my bag around my shoulders. The nook was in another building, so we had to leave.

I took Vi’s hand and led her out of the building, we got some eyes but I didn't care and I don't think Vi did either.  I pulled her outside, but then it started raining. Hard. I gripped her hand tighter and we began laughing while trying to run quickly to the other building.  She laughed along with me as we ran.

Once we got to the safety of the building, I started brushing my hair behind my ears and away from my face. I looked at her, we were completely drenched with rain, her hair stuck to her face and her clothes hugged her body. My eyes wouldn't peel away from her, the heat rising again, coating my cheeks in a dark pink blush. Vi also stared at me, but I didn't mind, then she pulled me quickly.

“Violet!” I yelled laughing a little while she dragged me.  She pulled me into the toilet. She stared at me after the door closed, her cheeks were lightly dusted with pink. “What?”

“You, umm…” she paused, looking me up and down. “Your dress?”

I turn and look in the mirror. Shit. My dress was completely see-through. My blush darkens, and I gasp slightly. I feel utterly embarrassed, how could this happen? Vi leans against the toilet counter and crosses her arms over her chest, she stares at me looking up and down. I try to cover myself as best I can.

“This is fine. umm, I have a spare change of clothes in my locker so no need to panic.” I was slightly panicking though, I couldn't walk out almost fully exposed.

“What's your locker combo?”  She asks, finally meeting my eyes, she pushes herself off the counter.

“W-why?” I was still panicking. I looked at her again, she gave me an almost tired look.

“Because I'm going to get your change of clothes, I need your combination to do that. The rest I can figure out.” Vi uncrossed her arms and let them dangle at her sides impatiently.

“Oh umm,” I tried to remember my locker combination. “2 to the left, 3 to the left and then 1 back to the right.”

“Okay, I'll be back.” With that she left the room. I locked myself into a stall as I waited for her. I didn't care if I was late to class, I just needed a change of clothes.
