She Moves In Her Own Way
12th September 2023
6PM
Devi sat in her dorm, waiting for the others to arrive. She had her guitar tuned and on her lap, when the other two waltzed in.
"Hi, bitches!!" Marlene yelled out, waving her hands in the air.
"What a cheery greeting, Marls," Devi chuckled, standing up with her guitar.
They were all discussing which 2000's rock band was the best (Green Day, obviously) when Lily walked in, all dressed up.
Oh, she looks nice.
Oh.
She looks nice.
Yeah, Devi fancied her a bit, and she had just shrugged it off- but this feeling, it was different, it was deep in her stomach, she didn't know if she liked that or not.
Lily left as quickly as she came, and they carried on arguing.
"Green Day is the best! Have you not listened to Basket Case?" Devi protested.
The other two girls groaned.
Marlene spoke up. "Yes, Green Day is good, but what about Radiohead?"
Mary rolled her eyes. "The Offspring is better than both of them!"
Devi and Marlene rolled their eyes at that.
Devi plugged in her guitar. "We gonna rehearse or what? We can do one song from each band, no arguments."
They learnt three songs that night (with a lot of struggle): American Idiot, Just and Pretty Fly (For A White Guy). At that, they put the instruments away in a corner and slept.

2:34PM
Devi listened as the teacher introduced a new project, something about a mockumentary. She had to find a partner, and Regulus walked over (along with the stick up his arse, she thought.) and offered to work with her. He explained the project a bit better- a David Attenborough style mockumentary on your dormmates.
Devi sighed. She wanted to become a wildlife photographer, not fucking David Attenborough. She went along anyways.
"So.. who's dorm mates should we do this with?" She asked.
"Yours are more annoying, so yeah."
"Fair enough."
5:01PM
Devi was sat in the common room with her camera and Regulus. She was recording as people walked past, making comments on what they were doing. This assignment was gonna be the death of her. She was bored out of her mind, and genuinely considering just forcing Reg to do all the work. It was so boring, she actually started nodding off right there, which she thought was hilar....
11:04PM
Devi woke up with a start. There goes her perfect sleep schedule. That stupid project, she didn't think she'd actually fall asleep over it. She heard shuffling, and sat up quickly.
Oh. Nevermind, it was just Lily.
Oh- it was Lily.
"You up, Devi?" Lily asked, sit down on the bed.
"Yep. Took a way too long nap, someone carried me in here. Wonder who."
"Oh, that was me. I saw you fast asleep on the armchair and thought you'd be less likely to get a sore neck in your bed."
"Oh, thanks." She chuckled awkwardly.
"How have your classes been? My Literature professor is this old woman, looks like she was friends with the dinosaurs."
"Mcgonagall? I've seen her around the school.
And with that, they talked until the sun came up. No worries or burdens, just taking the piss out of their teachers and fellow students.
