House of the Dragon

This story starts off with 5 people sitting around on various lavish couches and chairs by a fire place, “But when we got out of the vault and went to the ground there was a dragon, it was chained up and looked sick” said Harry, he had been sitting on a couch with Ron next to him, it was as if the scruffy looking man had just been hit with an electric shock.

“What did the dragon look like” Sirius told Harry with a very firm and heavy tone. Ron piped up from next to him, “It was white with what looked like spines covering its body” he paused taking a moment to remember something “I think it was a Ukrainian Iron belly, Charlie showed us his books a lot when we were younger”. Sirius looked like his soul got pushed out of his body with that sentence, his eyes had somewhat glossed over, like he was lost in the mad sea that was his mind.

Just then he whispered something under his breath, the man next to him Remus seemingly hearing what he said gave him a wide eyed look, eyes darting between the three teens that sat across from him before leaning towards the other man and saying in a hushed voice “are you sure?”. After a couple seconds of eerie silence Hermione spoke up “…Did you know the dragon?” she asked, almost questioning her own words.

“I had a brother, his name was, Regulus.” It was as if the mere mention of the words pained him to say “The house of Black” he took a breath “Is also known as ‘The house of the Dragon. Back in the medieval times house black owned dragons, we stopped keeping them as time went on but, Regulus was different.” He had a wistful look on his face while talking, as if remembering long forgotten memories.

“One day when we were both very young, we had gone to visit family in France, while there we had gone to a dragon sanctuary, my Father was meeting with some ministry person and wanted us to look like the perfect family, so made us all go out on a family adventure.” While talking Sirius looked like the mention of his father made him spit his name out like it was fire, his eyes were ablaze with a deep kind of anger, the type that was vicious and bubbled up like lava, that when overflowed poured out destroying everything in its path, not stopping unless it’s on its own accord,

“He and my Mother left us to look at the dragons while they went of the talk, they were all so hostile to everyone else, but Regulus, there was this one dragon in particular that was so angry and kept on trying to burn everyone who got close.” He took a breath in, seemingly trying to stop himself from breaking apart even more than he had,

“The moment he looked at the dragon it looked back at him seemingly stuck in a trance or something, Regulus then walked closer to the bars of the cage, and so did the dragon, he then spoke, and for some reason no matter how much I tried to forget it or him these words
just kept on coming back. He said, ‘I know what it’s like to feel trapped too, like you’re in a tight cage and all you can feel is sorrow and anger’.” Sirius raised his head from the fire before looking at the three teens in front of him, “the dragon let him touch his snout, and I swear around the two something covered them in a haze, it was a pearlescent white colour. Just then Mother and Father had come back they were also in shock at the sight, Mother had tried to get closer to pull Regulus back but the moment she took a step forward the dragons gaze locked on to her and began growling, it only stopped when Regulus told him it was alright.” A gradual smile had worked it’s way onto Sirius’s face while talking about his brother

“He then turned to Mother and Father and proudly announced that this was Marguerite, it was a name that had meant pearl in French.” He paused for a moment, mulling over the words in his mind “He was so proud of himself, of course Mother almost had a fit right there and then, and the funny thing was it was Father who had bought the dragon off the sanctuary in the end.”

A fond smile had taken over Sirius’s face while talking, the three teens and man had found themselves also softly smiling, Ron recognized the feeling Sirius had, he felt it too when talking about his siblings, that loving longingness, he hesitated for a second before softly speaking and asking “What happened to the dragon, after” he found himself not able to continue with his sentence, the words dying out in both his mouth and mind.

Sirius frowned for a bit before speaking again “When Regulus died, I had already gone to live with the Potters, and Father had died as well so it was just Mother at that point. I’m guessing that she just handed the dragon off to the family” he stopped chuckling before continuing

“But judging how the dragon ended up in Gringotts I’d say the bastard hated the rest of them as well.” After finishing his sentence he let out a big breath before cocking his head and looking at the three teens across before saying “You should all be in bed, go on.” As if they got snapped out of a trance all three nodded before each saying goodnight and heading up the stairs,

Remus looked over at Sirius before quietly asking “Are you alright” Sirius huffed at the irony before answering back “no.” before his head dropped down and tears began to bubble up until they dropped, Remus got up and embraced him, as if saying that he wasn’t alone. Without any words Sirius silently wrapped his arms around Remus, the only noise heard being the crackly of the ever dying fireplace.
