Chapter 2

The Great Hall. Breakfast.

He had broken up with me last night. Right. Well, why was the prat mad at me? He was the one who sodding broke it off for Merlin’s sake! And from what I could tell, he definitely wasn’t dying inside like I was.

“Sirius told me you knew.” He said in a whisper only I could hear, cutting the silence. “About the Rosier thing.”

Ok, now I got why he was mad at me. But still, he could have just, I don’t know, told me?

”Why didn’t you tell me.” I blurted out, my voice quiet so only he could hear as well. Stupid, big, always moving mouth.

“Because it wasn’t your business!” He was somehow still whispering. I don’t know how he did it. Maybe I’d try and get lessons on how to whisper and yell at the same. Then I’ll-

“Are you even listening to me?” He asked, doing the weird yell-whisper thing again.

”How do you do that?”

”Do what?” He raised an eyebrow at me while saying this.

”Yell and whisper at the same time.” I said.

Evans.” He drawled. ”Is that seriously all you got from this conversation? That I could yell and whisper?”

”Well, no. I also got that you’re mad at me for no reason.”

“No reason?” His face was red with rage and I winced a bit. He obviously didn’t notice, as he didn’t spare me a glance, going on with his rant. He had stopped whispering and the rest at the table were looking curiously at us.

” You meddled in what wasn’t at all your business to meddle in! You prodded Sirius for information! We were barely even friends at that point!”

”I’m sorry James.” I said, feeling quite a bit helpless. I felt years pricking at the back of my eyes.

”Sorry won’t cut it Evans. And plus, this isn’t just about that.”

I raised an eyebrow at that. What was happening. Was it going to be like those shows and all the people I’ve ever meddled with would appear from thin air to start telling their tragic tales of the time Lily Evans meddled with their life? I hoped not.

”It’s about how you get into messes, self-pity and cry and then decide to involve everyone else in your mess of a life.” He said shaking his head at me.

”You said I was worth it.” I said. The tears falling freely now.

He raised an eyebrow.

”When we had finished snogging and after your conversation with Elisabeth in the owlery.” I blurted out.

His face has gone red with rage and Elisabeth’s face had gone white. “Well I was wrong. And you were spying on us.” He shook his head. “I should have listened to the lads on the team when they told me you were crazy and that I should stay clear.”

”She is crazy isn’t she?” Zoe asked, giggling.

”Move over Evans.” Sirius cut in. “It’s quite obvious you’re not wanted here.

I ran out of The Great Hall, in tears and determined to find Grace and Emma.
