A talk
The next morning, after a rather somber breakfast, Harry and Sirius were sitting in the library again, talking about what happened. “You know if Albus is really that concerned about this thing going both ways, and voldy spying on us through you. We could maybe revisit that idea I had about going to America. You can’t really call it running away if you’re just protecting important information from going to the other side?” Sirius tried hoping to get his prongslet as far away from this mess as possible.
“You already know I’m not running Padfoot. Can we just not fight about this?” Harry really hoped that Sirius wouldn’t insist too much, because it was getting very tempting to leave Britten right now. What with Umbridge being Umbridge and half the students not believing him, and therefore being right back to bullying him. It really was quite hard to deal with, and running away to America was looking very attractive.
“ I know you don’t want to run Harry, but I’m your godfather, I have to protect you. That’s what I signed up for. Protecting you above everybody else, even myself.
I’m not responsible for defending a society that left me in Azkaban without a trial for twelve years. Just you.”
“ I can understand that. But I’m supposed to protect everybody from Voldemort. And Hogwarts is the only real home I’ve ever had, I can’t just let it all break down” Harry was waving his hands about while talking.
“I understand that Harry, but there are other people who can…. Wait what is that. On your hand, show me!”
Harry froze he wasn’t gonna tell Sirius about Umbridge, ssince he wouldn’t be able to do anything about it anyway. But now he had been caught, and it really didn’t look like his godfather was going to let him get away without an explanation.
So he showed him the writing on his hand, and explained how it had happened, peppered with complaints about how she was a dangerously useless DADA teacher and High inquisitor who made the whole school an uncomfortable and restrictive environment.
“ That wile disgusting waste of magic!!” Sirius rages after listening to Harry. “Do you know how harmful bloodquills can be, we are so fucking lucky that an inability to lie is so manageable. Merlin what is she making everybody else write?!”
“I mostly made sure she was too busy with me to hurt anybody else.” Harry tried to reassure, not that hearing his pup had spent most nights being tortured helped Sirius at all.
“You can’t go back there Harry.” Sirius said with finality.
“What no. You can’t decide that.”
“Look I’ve been in contact with some aurors from macusa about getting me a fair trial. I’m gonna write to them about this, and then we’re gonna go over there and show them the proof.”
“I’m not going to run away! You don’t get to decide this for me!” Harry yelled.
“Your parents chose me to take care of you, so I bloody well will! Besides this is the best thing you can do for your classmates. The ministry here obviously isn’t going to do anything, they fucking put her there. Macusa can do something about it, but they are going to need some Merlin dammed evidence. So we’re gonna take a portkey over there, and you’re gonna show them your hand!” Sirius decreed he wasn’t going to let Harry talk him out of this, it was part of the job to make the executive decisions, when the teenager in your charge was being stupid.
“I…” Harry started to argue. “We’re going, it’s final.” Sirius said, he could be the fun godfather but that wasn’t what Harry needed right now, right now he needed an adult who put him before some prophecy that got his parents killed.
And so they went.
