The Humanity In Our Hearts
Summary
It was all a surprise for Evan. He wasn’t outgoing like Barty, or introverted like Regulus. He didn’t have a lot of friends, but he was not alone. Everyone kind of knew him, everyone in Slytherin liked him. He didn’t really like other houses though, maybe some Ravenclaws, including his sister and Barty. But he never thought he would fall in love with a hufflepuff.

Grow emotions, in a heartless body

It was a long night for Evan. After their game against Hufflepuff, the thirteen year old boy had fallen off his broom. Everything was that filthy blood traitors, Edgar Bones’ fault. He was never really fond of the boy, sure he was good looking but he didn’t really own up to those looks.

The game had ended after Evan fell off. His whole team was really worried, since he was the youngest beater. But the thing that caught his attention the most was Pandora's eyes. Her pupils in her big gray eyes had dilated. Evan almost felt guilty though he knew it wasn’t his fault but that blood traitors. Evan never liked him, but he never really did have a good reason not to, this was more than enough reason to hate him.

His arm was broken, the older players said he was lucky for slipping away with a little broken arm. He didn’t feel lucky, it hurt, and it hurt bad. He could barely move his hand without his arm hurting. He hated older guys sometimes, they could be emotionless. He wondered if he would become like one of them when he's older, no he feared it. Though, it wouldn’t be surprising, that’s basically how everyone saw him already.

Pandora had came to visit him at the hospital wing multiple times throughout the day; she had even asked Madame Pomfrey if she could stay overnight. She had of course declined it, Evan told her to not make a big deal of it because he was staying for only one night. Secretly, Evan was grateful she couldn’t stay. Of course, he loved Pandora more than anyone else, she was his sister after all and also the only person who really knew him. The only one who showed care for him, he was grateful for that of course but he needed to be alone. He’d only get irritated by someone to stay by his side when his honor was just broken into pieces. Knowing Pandora she’d probably keep talking and talking, Evan was the opposite, he stayed quiet. Sometimes he’d get annoyed from listening to everything but he never actually said so. But there were hints. He’d often reply dryly, with one word, and his face obviously showed no interest and annoyance. He felt bad of course, more for himself than Pandora but partially for her too.

Amelia was familiar with strange names, her brother was really active in school even though he was young, and most people already knew him at this point. She liked people, she liked humanity, poetry. Her mother always told her she felt everything so deeply from a young age, which made her really mature growing up, even about her emotions. Edgar always came up to her with different stories, after his last game she was the first person he told about the incident. Well, the only person who wasn’t there when it happened. Evan Rosier, she’d heard that name many times before. Edgar literally wouldn’t shut up about him. He told her about how punchable his face was and that he shouldn't play if he didnt know how to. Amelia didn't really agree with her brother's words, most of the time at least. They had similar lives but they were quite different. They felt different, acted differently and saw from different perspectives. Just agreed with him, at least acted like she did, she didn't want him to think she was by Rosier’s side. Edgar was too stubborn to admit he was wrong, Amelia didn't want to deal with that.

That evening, as she was walking through the hallways which opened their doors to nature, she saw a girl with long blonde hair running to the nurse’s office in tears. She recognized her from Edgar’s stories, in every story which mentioned Evan his sister with long blonde hair was mentioned too. Pandora Rosier, the Rosier twins were the only other twins in their year, you’d think they’d get along, but you’d be wrong. Pandora was beautiful, she had these eyes you could stare at for hours and never get tired. But she was also a very strange girl. Amelia didn't know what to exactly think about her, she was awkward yeah, but everyone is a bit awkward right? She was just braver than the rest for acting on it.

She didn't think much about it and left the big castle. As she was walking she saw her dear friend, Emmeline Vance. Amelia had always thought Emmeline was the prettiest girl she had ever seen. Her long wavy hair, big eyes and her heart just made her impossible to not like. “Hi Emmie! How are you doing lately?” She asked as she sat next to her, under the big tree.

“I'm doing all right, Ames. Have you seen what happened at the game today?” She asked Amelia, as her pupils grew. “Oh right you weren't there because you were reading at the library!” She said sarcastically, happy.

“Haha, very funny. But I heard, Edgar told me.” She answered as she rolled her hazel eyes.

“Don’t you think he’s kind of hot, him and his twin especially!” Emmeline worded with a smirk, and red cheeks.

Amelia looked at her weirdly, but let their thoughts out of her mouth. “Yeah well, they’re quite pretty, bomb genes I guess!”

Emmeline scoffed, “Quite pretty? They're absolutely gorgeous.”

The brunette laughed as she took her book from her back pack “yeah okay let’s say that, Vance”

Emmeline laughed also and went back to her homework. Amelia liked reading quite a lot, but didn’t always do it, it could be a waste of time sometimes. Just like talking about the future, planning your future and not letting the universe do its thing.

Amelia personally loved positions, even though most people didn’t because of how careful you had to be. She liked to explore, experience new things. She was always open to new opportunities.

“Miss Bones! Attention please!” She heard Horace Slughorn say as he clapped his hands. She used to zoom out quite a lot. Especially in potions, when Professor Slughorn did nothing but talk about unnecessary things.

“Sorry professor” she mumbled and continued to listen to things they had learned years ago. It was tiring, even if she didn’t do anything but sit there. Listening to the Professor was enough to tire someone out. She couldn’t wait but to actually start working.

And they finally did, thank Merlin she worked alone. She got furious when she worked with someone who didn't know how to do anything. It was better for her to work alone, that way she wouldn’t have someone constantly nagging her about what she should and shouldn’t do.

He finally felt free after leaving the hospital wing, he had spent a whole night there and that was enough for him. He had missed Barty and Pandora already, but it wouldn’t be long before he saw them again because there they were, right in front of him. He had later found out by Pandora that they waited for him to leave the hospital wing. It wasn’t really a surprise, it was such a Pandora thing to do, and Barty, of course, who was probably forced to wait with her.

Barty was quite dear to Evan. They had met from a really young age, at a ball Barty’s dad threw for the workers in the ministry. They had clicked instantly, Evan was quite silent compared to Barty, who was loud and hyperactive. That made him confident about being himself, if Barty wasn’t ashamed, why should he be? Ever since they were little, Evan had this feeling about Barty, he felt like they would be best friends till one of them dies. Of course no one could replace Pandora, but Barty was his platonic soulmate.

As the trio of young teenagers started walking through the corridors, Evan felt eyes on himself, he turned his head to see who it was. It was this girl, he’d seen her around but he never really paid attention to people so he didn’t know who she was. She had this silky light brunette short hair. Way shorter than the other girls in their year at least. When she noticed he looked back at her, she smiled. He looked confused; he didn't even know the girl. He had recognized the smile though, couldn’t really name where, but he’d seen it before, many times. But not only her smile, her face. It was so recognizable. He never really looked at strangers' faces. He didn’t want to seem weird by staring but she was intriguing for some reason.

His head shot to the other side as he heard someone calling; “Amelia!!” It was Emma Vanity, calling out for the short-haired girl. Amelia? He’s heard that name before, then he realized. He realized where he’d seen that smile before, where he'd heard her name, it was Amelia Bones, Edgar Bones’ twin sister!

He had a reason to not like her already, Edgar Bones was the most unbearable person ever, his twin sister could not be any different.

He glanced with disgusted eyes at the short haired girl and her friend, Vanity who was in their house and quidditch team. He didn’t know Vanity was befriending blood traitors like the Bones’. Vanity must have felt his glances and turned her head towards the trio. She saw Pandora Rosier and Crouch talking while Evan was in the middle, she smiled at Evan who owned the stares.

Evan found himself in the Ravenclaw common room after all his classes. Not being in the same house as his sister and his best friend was annoying. He always had to go back and forth. It was really tiring since the Ravenclaw Common Room was basically at the top of tower, while the Slytherinwhile the Slytherin Common Room was in the dungeons. He had to go all the way up to the tower almost everyday to meet them. The three young teenagers were just sitting on the sofas talking. Well Barty and Pandora were talking, Evan was just sitting there listening and made a few comments here and there.

After some solid minutes, where Evan just sat there and listened to Pandora and Barty talking, he heard a familiar voice. It caught his attention, he heard the voice coming through from the stairs. He saw two faces, one of them was Emmeline Vance, Pandora's friend, who looked like she was also friends with Amelia Bones. Of course she had to be there. Evan rolled his eyes and looked back at his sister and friend.

He was not planning on paying more attention to them later, but he heard her voice, felt her hazel eyes on himself, once again. Evan never really liked his eyes, they were too light and he thought it didn’t look good on his face. He thought hers were beautiful and they suited her face perfectly. He turned his head back to his friends and continued to listen to them, as he -and the rest of the common room- could hear Bones’ and Vance’s voices.

It was getting late and Evan didn’t want to miss curfew so it was time for him to leave. As he was walking to the door, he saw someone else in front of him, ready to leave also. He recognized the short hair, of course it was Bones. Why did she have to go everywhere he went? And why now? She said goodbye to Vance for the hundredth time and left the common room, Evan just right behind her.

As he went through the door, he realized Bones was standing in the corner, he would think she was waiting for someone. “Oi! Rosier right?” He heard that familiar voice again, they even sounded the same!

“And why, prey tell, do you care, Bones?” He answered in his tone, quite harshly. He didn’t want to communicate with her, his father wouldn’t like that.

“I heard about the game, I just wanted to tell you that I hope you get better soon,” Evan stared at her weirdly, disgusted. “Your arm I mean” she said fastly, with her red cheeks and widened eyes. Evan didn’t answer, he didn’t want to talk to her so he looked away. Once Amelia noticed she wasn’t getting a response she went the other direction quickly, embarrassed she even mentioned it.
