Back to Normal

Yet again, Dazai was trapped in his room. He had hoped that since Father was gone, Mori would let him have more autonomy, and possibly allow for him to go outside sometimes, but it seemed that his life was the same as ever. The only difference was that he had far more missions and responsibilities ever since he was promoted to executive status. Truly, he wondered why Mori thought it was a good idea to promote a 13-year-old boy to be an executive. Then again, he didn’t want to bother with Mori’s cryptic plans and ideas that would take him months to make sense of.

The dress Mori gave him the day before sat crumpled in the corner of his room, mocking him. The note that accompanied it had been ripped to pieces as soon as Dazai woke up, and the dress was thrown to a corner. He would not be wearing that today, even if Mori got upset. He never specifically mentioned that Dazai had to wear it now, so he technically couldn’t get in trouble.

Dazai was still astounded with just how well things turned out at Hogwarts. He managed to tie all of the “loose ends”, as Mori called them. Dumbledore, though he never was much of a hindrance, was dead, leaving Professor McGonigal as the headmistress. That will be far more troublesome. Dazai realized. While Dumbledore was always concerned with abstract ideas and theories, such as his “third party”, and “bigger picture”, McGonagall would keep him under much more surveillance.

She also knew of his involvement with the Port Mafia, and likely would call him into her office during the school year. That’s not even mentioning Snapes investment in Dazai’s “homelife”.

Troublesome indeed. The Hogwarts staff is always meddling in things they have no business digging around in. Dazai stared blankly at his wall, his eyes dull, as if they absorbed all of the light in the room into its endless abyss. Maybe if Madame Pomphrey hadn’t interfered and gone to Yokohama, she would still…

Dazai was snapped out of his train of thoughts by a loud knock to his door. A moment later, a low-ranking grunt entered his room. “The Boss has instructed you to meet him in his office in five minutes.” Before Dazai could respond, the man left and closed his door, leaving it unlocked this time.

“Ughhhh Mori-san is so annoying, always making me do so much work.” Dazai pouted, muttering to himself as he stood up.

He opened the door from his room and started to walk to Mori’s office. He meandered around on purpose, not wanting to be alone with Mori again. He eventually decided that he had wasted enough time and knocked on Mori’s door. Not bothering to wait for permission to enter, Dazai opened the door and walking in.

“Ah Shuuji-kun you’re late. I understand that you don’t have the best sense of time, but please refrain from messing around when you have direct orders to see me.” Mori smiled, saccharine and deceptive. Dazai felt nothing but disgust.

“I told you not to call me that Mori-san. I picked the name Dazai for a reason”, He whined making dramatic gestures.

“Fine then, Osamu. You wound me with those words”. Mori made the face he used when Elise was acting up. Disgusting. “I wanted to ask you how your second year at Hogwarts was, darling. How is that gang of yours? I know it must have been rather difficult as the demon student. The Daily Prophet depicted you quite accurately. However, I recently heard that you’ve been called a “hero” by some wizards. Apparently, your former defense against the dark arts teacher, Gilderoy Lockhart, has been saying that you saved the school from a monster. I don’t think that is how I told you to portray yourself?”

Despite his outwardly polite tone, Dazai could tell that Mori was seething inside. He needed to do some damage control so that he wouldn’t have to go to the kennel again. “It was necessary to keep me from getting expelled. Most people still fear me anyway, no matter what Lockhart says.”

“Ahhh its alright Osamu”, said Mori. “I’ll just have Kouyou-kun spread the word about you throughout DOE. Alright, you’re free to go now, darling.”, Mori gave one of his predatory smiles, his eyes glinting dangerously in the light. “But next time you come to visit me, see to it that you wear that adorable new dress I bought you! Its blue this time, which is far more fitting for you than white.”

Dazai shuddered in disgust, and walked out of the office, not sparing another glance back to Mori.

“Oh, one more thing before you go Shuuji-kun.”

Dazai glared at the use of that name, but stopped none the less, not willing to be punished for disobedience.

“Don’t message those friends of yours unless I instruct you too. Attachments like that have no place in the Port Mafia.” Mori’s tone suddenly shifted, and he once again had a gross smile on his face. “You can leave now, dear.”

Dazai didn’t have to be told twice, and swiftly walked out. Back to his room. Back to captivity.
