You're the One that I Want
The spell is broken.
But more importantly, James loves him.
Regulus feels all giddy inside.
They sat there for a few minutes just appreciating the fact that they were both ok as the sun rose.
James grabbed Regulus’ hand and laced their fingers together. A silent agreement that they would go see if the spell was truly broken.
They walked down the staircase hand in hand, spotting the large wooden doors as they were wide open.
The two of them shared a confused glance as they stepped outside, seeing everyone who ever lived in the castle, and a few people who were still there from the fight.
“Regulus!” A specific voice called from behind, one that could only belong to one person.
Regulus and James both turned around to see Evan and Barty standing together, hugging. Regulus chuckled.
“Barty, you look old.” Regulus joked.
Barty untangled himself from Evan and ran to give Regulus a hug. “We made it.”
“We made it,” Regulus agreed.
Barty pulled away and turned to James, thanking him as they hugged.
“Regulus.” Evan greeted.
“Rosier.” Regulus responded.
“Reggie!!!” A loud voice boomed, interrupting Evan. “You are alive oh my gosh.” A body latched onto his. It was Sirius.
“The only reason I am is because of James.”
Sirius pulled back ever so slightly and turned to James. “Thank you.”
James nodded in response.
A bit further away, Regulus could see Remus, Remus always was his favourite.
“Regulus.”
“Remus.”
"Thank you for keeping everyone in line."
"See Barty, he called you old, but he thanked me." Remus teased.
Sirius turned around to see Remus and ran and smashed his lips against Remus’.
“I guess they worked it out.” Barty laughs.
Regulus felt a hand around his waist. He turned around and saw James, sporting a bright smile.
“I love you so very much.” James smiled.
Regulus couldn’t help it. He stepped up onto his toes and pressed his lips against James’, smiling into the kiss.
“I love you.” Regulus said into the kiss.
Regulus never did think he’d find love. He never thought he’d earn love. James did prove him wrong. And James would continue to prove him wrong.
Over the years, they’d share love and laughter, and fall deeper for each other. Getting married two years after the day that the spell was broken, and having kids, treating them the way Regulus deserved to be treated growing up.
They watched their friends grow.
Barty and Evan got married on a whim. They didn’t invite many people to the wedding, in fact they decided to go to a courthouse on a random Tuesday, bringing James, Regulus, Pandora, Sirius, Remus, Harry, Lily and her wife Mary.
Sirius and Remus had a big wedding a couple months after that. They became insufferable as soon as they got together, but they love each other dearly. James and Sirius became really close as well, James being Sirius’ best man.
James and Regulus got married before anyone else did. Everyone who wanted to come was invited. It was the best day of Regulus' life.
So Regulus assumes it is safe to say that he’s happy and has had the story he always dreamed for in life. He loves everyone, especially his husband.
After all, they are the Kings of France.
