Sirius, James and Lily were alone in the dormitory. Sirius suspected that James and Lily wanted to be alone in the dormitory, but what kind of brother would he be if he didn’t deliberately make his life harder every so often?
“Where’s Moons?” He said, head hanging off the side of his bed, looking at them upside down.
“Why don’t you take the map and go and find him?” James suggested, with a glare.
“Hmmm, maybe I don’t want to spend time with Moony after all. Maybe I want to stay here and… read.” He grinned at them.
“Yeah, like you’re going to turn down spending time with Remus alone.” Lily laughed, “Just go and kiss him already.”
Sirius wasn’t sure if his face was turning red from that comment or from hanging upside down. He chose to believe it was the latter. “Go and what?”
“You heard me.” She set her green eyes fiercely on his and honestly, if he was into girls, he’d have been so into it. Good for James. “Go and confess your undying love.”
Sirius stared at her, before rolling over to stare at her the right way up. “My… what?!”
Lily looked at James, “Does he not know?” James shrugged, “Sirius. You are aware that you’re in love with Remus, right?”
From the look on Sirius’ face, he did not know. His eyes flicked from one to the other, “That feels like something I’d be aware of before you.”
“And?” James looked at him over the top of his glasses.
“As far as I’m aware, Moony is my friend?” He said slowly.
“What did you do after the last moon?” James asked softly. He really thought Sirius had pieced this all together. “When he was in the hospital wing for three nights?”
“I snuck into Honeydukes and got him a load of chocolate.” James continued to look at him, “And I sat with him when Poppy would let me.”
“And?”
“I read to him?” He said in a small voice. “I let him sleep on me.”
“Not that I wouldn’t love for you to take a nap on me,” James weighed his words carefully. “But do you think that your actions are more like those of a… boyfriend?”
Sirius blanched and looked over at the door, “But that’s just how me and Moons are.”
Lily facepalmed violently. “Oh, love, you’re so close to getting it.”
“When Remus is sick, you feel…” James prompted.
“Worried?” He frowned.
“When he smiles at you over the tea you make him each morning, you feel?”
“Happy. All warm inside and—” His eyes snapped to Lily’s, “Oh fuck!”
“There it is!” She cheered.
“I love Moony? Wait— I love Moony!” His face was alternating between pure shock and pure joy. “Prongs! I love Moony!”
“We know you do.” He laughed, “I think everyone knows that you do.”
“Does Moony know?” He stilled, face pausing on shock.
“I think almost everyone knows.” Lily smiled at him.
A crease appeared between Sirius’ eyebrows, “Does he… Would he even want…?”
James looked at him like he was an idiot. Maybe he was an idiot. Perhaps this was just a ploy to get him out of the dorm, but surely they wouldn’t stoop that low. “Pads. Of course, he does.”
“Right. Ok then. Alright.” He exhaled sharply, “So I should go and— Alright then.” He got to his feet and grabbed the map from the end of James’ bed. “I’m going to go now before the Gryffindor courage deserts me.”
“Good man!” James shot him finger guns while Lily covered her face with her hands. “Go get your werewolf, Pads!”
Sirius shook his head as he left the dorm. He checked the map. Remus was… in an empty classroom with Dorcas. Oh. As he approached the classroom, his heart lurched as he saw the door was shut. He knocked and waited. Dorcas opened the door.
“It’s just Sirius.” She called back to Remus. “What do you want?”
“I wanted to talk to Remus.” He said coolly. “If you’re not too busy.”
“Just girl-talking.” Remus appeared behind her, beaming at him, his bag slung over his shoulder. “You need me?”
Sirius realised that he really did, but all he could do was nod.
“Wow, you rendered him speechless. Can you teach me how to do that?” Dorcas stage-whispered to Remus, who pushed her back into the room as he stepped out of it.
“Dorm?” He asked, brightly. He didn’t look like he’d just been kissed. He realised that he knew just what that Remus looked like, and every time he’d seen it for a good while, he’d hated it. Well that made sense now.
“Lames.” He shook his head, “Better not.”
Remus nodded, “Tapestry?” Sirius nodded and followed him to the passage behind the tapestry on the second floor. “Do I need to sit down for… whatever this is?” He smiled.
Sirius shook his head, “No, you might want to make a quick getaway, so… standing is fine, good. It’s good.”
Remus looked concerned, “What’s going on, Pads?”
“I’m in love with you.” It came out too fast and too loud. Remus just stared at him, expressionless. “Moons?”
“I— what?”
“It turns out that I’m in love with you.” Sirius looked down the corridor, not wanting Remus to see the panic in his face. “Apparently everyone knows but us.”
“I knew,” Remus said in a low voice. Sirius’ head snapped around to look at him. “I was just waiting for you to catch up.”
When Remus kissed him, it cemented everything for him. His hand on the back of Sirius’ neck felt like it had always been there, his soft lips moving against Sirius’ was the most natural thing in the world. It was him and Remus. Of course, it was.
