Bad first start?
It had been a few days since Marlene went into the village with Mary’s friends and she couldn’t get her mind off of it. It was all so new to poor Marlene surrounded by 6 random people and only really knowing two. When Marlene was back at home she always had one rule.
don’t put me into a room with people I don’t know
but for Mary she could bend that rule, plus they weren’t all that bad.
”Blondie!” Lily exclaimed sternly dragging the covers off of Marlene’s lanky body making the girl shiver and curse the red head under her breath.
“OI!” Marlene groaned loudly pulling her covers back over her and closing her eyes, one thing Marlene wasn’t was a morning person.
Lily could be annoying at times, when she’d been going in about homework, or studying or anything to do with school and sure if you were into that kind of stuff you wouldn’t mind but Marlene hated school. More then anything in the world.
Lily rolled her eyes and began packing her school bag with her books.
“I’m only trying to look out for you Marley.” Lily sighed shaking her head.
Marley? Where’s she got Marley from?
”that’s not my name don’t call me that.” Marlene stated giving Lily the most dirtiest look she could while she was half asleep.
she didn’t hate nicknames but she certainly didn’t like them, they reminded her of when her mother would call her Leni when shouting at her, Marlene and her mother never got along she was outgoing and her mother was strict. They don’t clash well.
”we’ve all got nicknames, you need one.” The other girl declared with a knowing grin, it made Marlene kind of happy whne she said that, she was officially apart of there friend group and it wasn’t so bad.
Marlene got up and began dressing herself for the day, taking an extra five minutes rolling her pleated skirt to the perfect length. Once they were both ready Mary was the last one to wake up kicking and crying about opening her eyes.
how dramatic Marlene thought
Mary took 30 minutes in the bathroom just doing makeup and hair, then an extra 10 minutes putting perfume on then 20 minutes actually putting her uniform on. When Mary had rolled up her skirt Marlene's eyes nearly popped out, her ass was nearly on display!
At first Marlene thought she didn’t realise it was that short but after seeing the girl twirl in the mirror multiple times that idea was squashed.
They all got out of their dorm at a reasonable time heading down to the history class they were all supposed to be in. Marlene had a bad reputation with teachers, often taking bad attitudes up with the teachers or walking out of lessons she didn’t like. But it wasn’t her fault, nobody understood that.
Turns out they got there fast because everyone was still lining up outside the door. She took in everyone in her class. Lily, Mary, James, Sirius, Peter, Remus, regulus and a few she didn’t recognise. A funky guy with spiked hair with green highlights and loads of piercings, a hippie girl with faint skin and light blonde hair and a boy who looked the same as the girl just taller and meaner.
they were all chatting amongst themselves when the teacher appeared, making everybody silent.
”good morning students.” The teacher addressed in a stern but warm tone arms in-front of her and her back straight and stiff.
they all said good morning back too her like robots as they entered the room. But Marlene slipped up saying something along the lines of “thanks morning.” Trying to mix thank you and good morning somehow.
the teacher gave her a weird look but didn’t press further as Marlene’s face went a deep shade of red and she looked away tripping over air while doing so, luckily she didn’t fall.
Once everyone was in the classroom and sat she began writing in the board “Hello and welcome back students, for those that are new like yourself miss McKinnon I’m gonna tell you who I am. Professor McGonagall, not McGonogell or McGenagall you treat me with respect I treat you with respect .” She said underlining her name twice on the board in-front of her.
“Since this is the first lesson of the school year we will not being doing any written work today, that does not mean I am indulging any foolish behaviour.” She warned
Marlene’s collar grew sweatier, the way this teacher spoke made her want to hide in a corner for the rest of lesson, James was already messing about sticking his pencils in his ears and making faces at Sirius who was on the other side of the room laughing at his antics.
Once the professor had set a task everyone began doing it, it was a simple one talk to your classmates about what you already know about history.
Marlene knew nothing.
Turns out that funky kid with the cool hair was actually a genius, even though he was insane, still a bloody genius. His name was barty and Marlene decided her best option this year in history was to stick by his ass.
None surprisingly nobody except lily Remus and Mary understood Marlene’s accent, a thick Mancunian accent always seemed to confuse people. Even professor McGonagall at times. But apart from a few threats from Barty and Regulus everyone was nice.
”hello miss McKinnon.” The women addressed Marlene, towering over her sat form.
”just Marlene please.” The blonde girl asked getting an eyebrow from the older women next to her.
“McKinnon is your formal name i am your teacher not your friend I will be using your last name.” She replied in the same tone she used every other time she had spoken.
Marlene felt like an idiot, a complete idiot. Everyone here was so posh with their fancy last name bullshit and their posh accents while Marlene sounded like a chimney sweeper in the Victorian ages. And now the teachers were having a go at her?
She didn’t belong here.
she was pretty sure she didn’t belong anywhere.
