Medical Check Pt.1

As the sun hung low in the sky, casting a warm, golden hue over the castle, Miruna's group stepped inside the grand entrance of Crystalline Peak. The towering stone walls loomed high above, their surface adorned with intricate carvings that seemed to whisper stories of the past. She couldn’t help but marvel at how the walls seemed to shift and shimmer when the sunlight touched them, revealing glimpses of old battles, solemn ceremonies, and joyous celebrations, all intricately carved and magically animated into the stone. It was as if the castle itself was alive, carrying within its very structure the memories of generations long gone.

The air was rich with the scents of polished wood, aged parchment, and a faint undertone of herbs—likely from the school’s apothecary wing. These familiar smells enveloped her like a warm blanket, a comforting reminder of the magical history woven into every corner of the castle. For a moment, Miruna let herself get lost in it, imagining the hundreds of students who had passed through these very halls, each with their own story to tell.

As they made their way through the castle’s vast corridors, Miruna could hardly contain her awe. The first room they passed was the dining hall, where the clusters of tables gleamed under the soft glow of enchanted chandeliers. Each one was adorned with ornate, glowing candles that floated just above the surface of the tables, flickering with an otherworldly light. She could almost envision the vibrant feasts that took place here—heaps of roasted meats, colorful platters of vegetables, and mountains of freshly baked bread that seemed to appear out of nowhere. Laughter and chatter would fill the air, echoing off the high, vaulted ceilings as students gathered to share their daily adventures.

The aroma of freshly baked bread wafted through the air even now, making her stomach growl slightly, a reminder that she hadn’t eaten since breakfast. It was strange how quickly time had passed, but she had been so absorbed by the excitement of the day that hunger had become a distant thought until now. She was eager to experience one of these grand meals, but that would have to wait—there were more pressing matters to attend to.

They moved on, passing several classrooms, each one silent and waiting for the bustle of students to return. Through the open doors, Miruna caught glimpses of elaborate charts pinned to the walls—maps of magical constellations, diagrams of mythical creatures, and intricate illustrations of enchanted artifacts, all untouched. The quiet made the rooms feel almost reverent, as though they were holding their breath before the start of something significant. Shimmering scrolls rested neatly on desks, awaiting eager hands to unravel their secrets, while flickering wand lights gently illuminated the pages of ancient texts left open for future lessons. Miruna’s heart raced at the thought of what lay ahead in her own studies. The stillness of the classrooms only amplified her anticipation, a quiet reminder that she stood on the cusp of something great, but also daunting.

At last, they arrived at the hospital wing, an area that struck a perfect balance between modernity and the castle’s enchanting charm. The room was spacious and bright, with large arched windows that let in the golden light of the setting sun on each of the 8 wall. The soft, ambient lighting inside was calming, designed to ease the nerves of any student entering. The walls were painted in soothing pastel colors, adorned with delicate, nature-inspired murals—fields of lavender, towering oak trees, and gently flowing streams, all rendered in soft, watercolor-like strokes. It was a place designed for healing, both of the body and the mind.

The octagonal main room of the hospital wing bustled with a quiet hum of magic. The eight walls were each marked by doors—seven of them numbered to represent the different years of study, and a final, unmarked door was reserved for “staff and advanced students” as the plaque by it read. The soft glow of floating crystal orbs illuminated the room, displaying the names of students waiting for their appointments and the availability of private examination rooms. Comfortable chairs were spaced evenly along the walls, giving the room the air of a relaxed waiting area rather than a traditional infirmary. Magical energy buzzed faintly in the air, soothing nerves and making the space feel welcoming rather than clinical.

A tall, dignified man with graying hair and a sharp gaze stood at the center of the room, addressing the gathered students with authority. His robes were immaculately pressed, and he wore a badge that identified him as the Head Healer of the Crystalline Peak School of Advanced Magic.

“Good afternoon, students,” he began, his voice steady and clear. “My name is Healer Gregor Rylan, and I oversee the entire infirmary wing here at CPSAM. You’ll be pleased to know that we offer state-of-the-art facilities—each of you will have access to your own private healer throughout your time here. Our healers are here to focus on your individual needs, whether that’s tending to minor injuries, managing magical fluctuations, or addressing anything more serious. You are welcome to come to the infirmary whenever you need, day or night. We are always open.”

Miruna stood toward the back, listening intently as Healer Rylan spoke. She’d never seen a healer before—never had much reason to never mind her parents actually taking her to one—and the thought of being in a place like this made her feel oddly exposed. She shifted on her feet, her eyes flicking between the numbered doors, wondering which one she’d be called through.

After a brief pause, Healer Rylan waved a hand toward a nearby healer. “And now, I believe it’s time for a few of you to meet your assigned healer. Don’t worry, you’re in very capable hands.”

Two of Miruna’s classmates were called first, each one following a healer through the door labeled “Year 1”. Miruna’s heart raced as she waited, the familiar knot of anxiety tightening in her stomach. Finally, a healer approached, her presence calm yet authoritative.

“Miss Potter?” the healer called. Miruna moved forward, her palms slightly sweaty as the other students’ eyes followed her. She forced herself to keep her expression neutral, though inside, her nerves were starting to rise.

The healer gave her a warm smile. “Come with me,” she said, leading Miruna toward the door marked ‘1.’ They walked through the door and entered the left hallway, which was lined with examination rooms. The soft lighting and soothing atmosphere did little to calm the unease brewing inside Miruna.

The healer stopped at the first door on the left and gestured for Miruna to enter. The room was small but comfortable, with a single bed, shelves lined with healing equipment, and a desk with a filing cabinet beside it. Miruna took a seat on the bed, her hands clasped tightly in her lap.

After closing the door behind them, the lady turned to face her. “It’s nice to meet you, Miss Potter. I’m Healer Aricel DeVayne, but you can call me Aricel,” she said with a reassuring smile. “I’ll be your personal healer throughout your time here at CPSAM, so if you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to reach out.”

Miruna nodded, feeling a bit more at ease, though the unfamiliarity of the situation still made her nervous. Aricel moved to the filing cabinet and began flipping through the files. After a moment, she frowned and turned back to Miruna. “I don’t seem to have any past healing records for you,” she said, her brow furrowed in confusion. “Have you ever seen a healer before?”

Miruna shook her head, her voice coming out in a soft mumble. “No… never.”

Aricel’s expression softened, and she nodded understandingly. “That’s alright,” she said. “Since we don’t have any previous records, I’d like to perform a wellness check charm. It’s a simple spell that will give us an in-depth look at any past injuries you’ve had, how they healed, and anything else we should know about your health. Would that be alright with you?”

Miruna hesitated for a moment, her mind racing with the thought of having her entire health history laid bare. But after a deep breath, she gave a small nod. “Alright,” she agreed.

Aricel smiled gently and pulled out her wand. “Thank you. This will only take a moment.”

With a practiced flick of her wrist, Aricel cast the spell, and a soft, golden glow enveloped Miruna. The light felt warm, like the gentle touch of sunlight on her skin. Slowly, the glow lifted from her body, swirling in the air before condensing into a glowing scroll. The scroll floated down onto the table in front of them, glowing softly in the dim light of the room.

Aricel took the scroll and looked at it thoughtfully. “Let’s go over this together,” she suggested. “That way, if anything stands out, we can address it right away.”

Miruna nodded, her nervousness replaced by a mix of curiosity and relief as the two prepared to review the results. Aricel places the scroll down on the desk and the two of them read it as it unrolls.
