Chapter 1
Hey, Finch here, and I'd like to give a bit of an explanation before we get started with the story. Voldemort died in Order Of The Phoenix during his battle with Dumbledore instead of vanishing. Let's say the golden trio managed to arrive before it was too late and managed to help Dumbledore defeat him. As for how Omegaverse relates things work, allow me to explain:
In this AU, people's secondary sex presents itself at the age of 15 a month before school begins in august. For the first 4 years of attending Hogwarts, students aren't separated by gender, and are only separated once they're secondary sex presents itself.
Alphas are placed into one area, omega's are placed into another, and Betas are used to even out the numbers between them. While teachers advise their students not to go around and snogging with each other, there isn't much else they can do, and teenagers will always find a way anyways. Because of this, a class similar to sex-ed is required after presentation for the year, to teach students how to be safe, and protection is always at easy access. It's better to give the students what they need to keep things safe than to force them to hide and find unsafe options.
All alpha and omega students are provided scent patches to keep pheromones in check, and the teachers of course use these items as well.
Mating season comes around twice a year in this AU, once in spring and once in fall, typically lasting around a month each. Luckily, school is out during one of these seasons, the one in fall, but students are still attending during the second season in spring, do during April (the month of the season) students are advised to stay in their dorms and take the month to study and practice their spells, but obviously, very few of them actually follow the advice.
If that's all a bit confusing, here's a simplified version:

- There are two mating seasons a year, one in fall and one in spring. Since the one in spring is during the school year, students are told to stay in their
dorms until it passes, but they rarely ever do.
