Note
Hi everyone, I hope you enjoy this series. This is my first book and I'd love any feedback as I go along, even suggestions. A point I'd like to point out is, that I had to change the timeline just slightly since we can't have Mary being 100 years old and Harry only being around 25, so I brought the time back to accommodate, do keep in mind that I will try to edit the timeline if it still doesn't fit, of course, because of the technology unless we simply pretend that everything makes sense. The first chapter is and will be the shortest one so bear with the wait until the next chapter, thank you! <3

The drawing

Chapter 1:

1960, July 12th

Mary sat with her hands covered in clay, the movement of her aged hands shaped the vase as it turned round and round. It was a sunny day on the coast of Cedar Rapids. The humming of the news station and the clatter of crockery from her granddaughter in the kitchen gave the overall calm day a sense of serenity. Mary couldn’t help but feel peace, in her 46 years of life she had finally reached the peace she sought. It was when she heard the voice of a man named Harry Potter was her interest peeked, slowly rising from her chair, she walked towards the television.

“Nana?” her grandaughter's voice asked, it was mere background noise as her dark brown eyes zoned in on the figure on the telly, he looked like the spitting image of his father. “Your expedition is at the center of a storm of controversy over salvage rights and even ethics. Many are calling you a grave robber” said a reporter to Mr. Potter. Mary felt her eyes well as she took in the boy's face and unruly hair, his eyes were the same ones she remembered gazing into almost every chance she got. “Nobody called the recovery of the artifacts from King Tut’s tomb graving robbing. I have museum-trained experts here, making sure this stuff is preserved and cataloged properly. Look at this drawing, which was found today…”, The gasp that left her mouth was one of pain. Staring back at her was one of her best friends.

“Get me the phone dear,” she said to her granddaughter, her voice cracking with welling emotions. She watched as her grandaughter jittered around her in worry. Handing the phone over with curiosity, Mary dialed the number and spoke to a man. “Hello Ron Weasely speaking” spoke a rough voice, “Hello Mr. Weasley, I’d like to talk to Mr. Potter please” she replied patiently. “May I ask who is speaking?” his voice was slightly washed out from heavy background noise but Mary replied in any case. “Mary Granger, I’m calling regarding the drawing you found, I believe I know who it is”, the line was silent for a moment before the voice replied with an incredulous tone “Please stop with the prank calls, you’d have been dead by now if you were on that ship, I’m hanging up now” before he could end the call she corrected herself. ‘I believe you are looking for the heart of the ocean?” she rushed out. Once again the line was silent before a small whispered answer was heard. “Hold on for me please”. Mary watched as her granddaughter Hermione’s face scrunched in confusion, trying to piece together information.

Harry was directing a submarine to the edge of the deck before Ron rushed to him, “You’re gonna wanna take this call mate” he said with a wide smirk. Grabbing the phone he walked over to a quieter area, “This is Harry Potter. What can I do for you Mrs…?” Harry paused as he looked over to Ron for a name. “Mary Granger” he replied curtly. “Mrs. Granger?” he waited as the line sat quietly for a moment. “I was wondering if you had found the “heart of the ocean” yet, Mr. Potter”. Harry fumbled with the phone as he gasped in shock, his gaze shot to Ron, “Told you, you’d want to take this call” he said before walking off. “You have my attention, Mary, Can you tell me who the person in the picture is?” He asked, anticipating the answer. “Why yes, the person in the picture is Sirius Black, my best friend”.
