A Friday before Chaos
I sit in class, not truly paying attention to the words coming out of my teachers mouth. Across the room, hanging above the board with my teachers horrible handwriting on it, is a clock.
12:30
There is still around 5 minutes left of class. And it's only fourth period. I simply roll my eyes and try to focus as I wait for the bell to ring and for everyone to get dismissed. Why can't it just be the end of the day already? A rhetorical question, really. Though I understand the day must go on, something in me doesn't want to pay attention. I just want to go home. I want to be in my bed, alone, without my parents. My brother is okay though. They aren't though. Why can't I just leave?
On the bright side, if you can call it that, I get to see James next period during lunch. He'll probably try to offer me some of his food again, but that's okay I suppose. As long as I get to see him. His soft brown hair that I can never get tired of. His annoying laugh that I can't help but adore. His round framed glasses that always look amazing on him. I feel my face getting warm.
What the hell is wrong with me. I don't like him, right? That would be weird. I mean, he's my brother's best friend. I've known him since I was like ten. I shouldn't feel this way about him. He would never like me, he probably sees me as if I'm a little brother to him. I'm pretty sure he's totally straight either way. Doesn't he like Lily? She doesn't seem to like him back but still.... My brother would kill James and me if we dated anyway
The bell rings, startling me and pulling me away from my thoughts. I simply pack up my things so I can make my way to the great hall for lunch.
As I'm almost there, I hear someone call out for me.
"Reggie!!" Dorcas calls out to me. I stop so she can run over to me.
"Yeah?" I ask, wanting to know why she decided to scream my name from like 5 feet away.
"Okay, so, Marls suggested that we should have our friend group hang out some time this weekend." She starts. I almost forgot it was Friday. "We were talking about it in the group chat but you weren't responding at all so I was tasked with talking to you about it. There's no better time than on our way to lunch, no?"
"Uh... Where would we go? I have some work that does need to get done this weekend, so it can't be somewhere far. And my parents are out on a trip so I wont have a car unless I convince Siri to get James to drive me." I mention to her as we continue to walk. Being trapped in a car alone with James doesn't seem like the worse thing ever. But still, I wouldn't want to bother him... Nor would I want to sit in awkward silence with him.
"Barty can give you a ride or something." Dorcas suggests to me. We make it into the Great hall, walking over to our usual table where Barty, Marlene, and the twins sit.
"Dorcas, I'm not even sure how Barty passed his drivers exam. I very much do not trust him driving me." I say somewhat sarcastically as I put my things down and sit across from Pandora. Dorcas goes to sit next to her girlfriend of course, putting her adjacent from me.
"Wow, Reg. I'll have you know, I am an excellent driver." Barty retorts sarcastically.
"In your dreams, Bartemius.' Evan mumbles, typing something into his phone. Barty seems annoyed by this, rolling his eyes at his boyfriend. "Shut up" He responds.
I simply roll my eyes at their foolishness, turning to dig through my bag for my lunch. I place the square lunchbox on the lunch table, taking my fork out of the compartment it's stored in, placing it on the lid instead of proceeding to eat.
"What have you got for lunch today, Reg?" Pandora asks me, pointing to the blue bow that holds my food.
"It's just some rice and chicken. My mum thought it'd be smart to actually cook before she left for her work trip yesterday so I decided to just bring leftovers." I explain, taking out my phone and headphones.
"Well that's sweet. Will you actually eat it though?" She asks, knowing my habit of not eating a lot or anything at all. I simply shrug in response, slipping my headphones over my ears and unlocking my phone. There's a text.
