Chapter 1: August 20th, 1692
Bellatrix Black, eldest daughter of Druella Black (neé Rosier) and Cygnus Black would soon start her first year at Hogwarts.
“Aren’t you scared?” Little Narcissa asked Bellatrix while they were walking through the endless fields attached to the property of the Black Manor.
“Scared?” Bellatrix laughed. “Of what exactly? They’re not going to teach me anything I don’t know already.”
“Bella, there are surely some things you know nothing about.” Andromeda, the middle child, chimed in. “Any time mother starts talking about herbology you yawn shamelessly.”
“That’s a lie!” Bellatrix frowned. “And you never even listen to anything Papa or Mama says.” Bellatrix narrowed her eyes and smirked. “I bet... your letter never arrives.” She leaned closer to her sister. “I bet you’re a squib!”
Narcissa gasped. “Bella! That’s treason!” The little blond-haired girl widened her eyes.
“Oh, don’t overreact!” Bella chuckled. “I’m just stating factual information...”
Andromeda frowned. “Take that back!” She pushed Bellatrix.
“Hey!” Bellatrix pulled Andromeda’s brown hair.
“Ow!” Her sister yanked Bella’s black curly hair.
“Stop it, guys!” Narcissa hated when people fought, especially her dearest sisters.
Suddenly, an orb of light shot upwards in the distance. It was their mother signal to indicate dinner was ready.
Andromeda groaned. “Great! Now we have to wait until tomorrow!”
“It’s not my fault, you started it!” Bellatrix shouted at her.
Narcissa sighed. “I really wanted to cast the spell.”
The spell in question was a type of hex that allowed you to enchant an object and bind other people with it, so every time you touch it, you will know what the other person is doing or feeling. It had been Andromeda’s idea initially to perform such spell, the sisters had never been separated in their lives, and now, Bellatrix was leaving for a whole school year.
“What’s the meaning of this?!” Druella, their mother hissed and pointed at their clothes angrily. “Do you always have to go to play on the dirt? And so far away?” She grabbed Bellatrix by her arm and dragged her inside.
“Bellatrix you’re the eldest, I don’t expect this type behaviour from you!” Her gaze intensified before looking at her other two daughter. “From any of you...”
“Ow! I’m sorry!” Bellatrix saddened her face.
“You are going to Hogwarts, are you going to behave like this there? Hm?” Druella released Bella’s arm. “I have taught you all your life the proper manners of a lady.” She sighed. “It’s time you start acting like one...” She pointed to the dining room. “Go! Quick!”
Their father was sitting there already, reading The Daily Prophet.
“20% increase of mudbloods in Hogwarts!” He gripped the paper tighter. “For Merlin’s sake!” Cygnus Black with his deep black hair and brown eyes, he was the head of the family, therefore heir to the Black Manor.
“Dear stop reading the paper, it’ll only give you a headache.” Druella sat at the table.
He threw the paper to the chimney at started eating. “And where have you three been all day?”
“We were going to the l-” Andromeda covered Narcissa’s mouth. Their parents couldn’t know, if they knew they were doing something behind their backs it would infuriate them, and when they were furious, someone always got hurt.
“We were just chatting about life and about... how excited I am to go to Hogwarts!” Lie. Bellatrix thought Hogwarts was unnecessary, but maybe her annoying younger sister was indeed right and there was something Bella could learn there.
“Just...” His father sighed. “I don’t think it’s necessary but, don’t talk with mudbloods, they’re...”
“A plague?” Bellatrix interjected.
“Are they contagious, father?” Little Narcissa asked.
“They’re not a literal plague, Narcissa.” Cygnus spoke firmly, his eyebrows slightly arched.
“She doesn’t know the difference because she’s a blond.” Andromeda mumbled, tragically, everyone heard her.
“Hey take that back!” Narcissa kicked Andromeda under the table.
Druella hit the table with her fist. “Enough!” She looked at Andromeda. “To your room!”
“But it was a joke I-”
“I’m tired of dealing with you, go!” Druella raised her voice, it almost echoed.
Andromeda stomped while going upstairs.
“And forget about coming to the Diagon Alley tomorrow!” Druella said as Andromeda slammed her bedroom door.
“Oh, it’s tomorrow?” So they couldn’t perform the spell that day either, it had to be soon.
“If your mind wasn’t distracted by other things, you would remember we’ve been telling you for a week.” Cygnus drank some wine.
Some outsider would say that was a tense dinner, but in Bellatrix eyes, that had been a calm one. No one threatened to use an unforgivable curse, and no one got hurt, at least not physically. That night her mind wandered and she imagined herself on the train, she imagined herself being sorted and she imagined the power she will have as an exceeding student.
She smirked.
