holding her hand is better than any drug

You hadn’t imagined holding someone who was unconscious down would be so difficult. For a lady who couldn’t keep her eyes open she sure as hell fought back. Pushing and struggling against your grip you did your best to keep the muscle of Zaun down on the table. Singed, needing medical attention himself, acted on Silco’s instructions to save his second in command. Sevika lay there as you tried to coax her into giving up her fight against the anesthesia, or whatever the closest concoction Silco’s mad scientist had created.

After all her fighting subsided you remained holding her hand. You weren’t sure why. You’d had minimal interactions with Sevika, some at the Garden during your time there which we won’t get into now, but even then the most you’d done was speak with her in passing as she headed into one of the other workers’ rooms. She’d caught your attention immediately, you on the other hand seemed to get ignored. Here you were, for all intents and purposes, a whore ready for anyone - but she never got closer than a conversation. What kind of an insult was that? Thanks for thinking I’m interesting enough to chat to but not enough to fuck? What were you supposed to do with that now? Once you joined up with Silco, climbing the ranks as an informant, a spy, a fighter, and a loyal daughter of Zaun, you saw Sevika in a different light. There she was, standing behind the *almost* most powerful man in Zaun before the fight and explosion that changed everything, and all you could think about was her presence. There’s no way she remembered you, you assumed by her lack of attempts to fuck you you may as well have not existed in that part of her life. But you were determined to prove her wrong - not her actually, you knew that much, but more the version her sexual rejection had created in your mind. You would work hard and prove your worth.

Not like she would remember, and you certainly wouldn’t remind her, of the time you held her hand as she screamed and writhed in pain from the eclectic blue explosion that rocked the night. Silco was dealing / taking care of ? the girl who’d seemingly caused this. You couldn’t blame the kid, she seemed more than traumatized from whatever had led to this that all blame was immediately lifted for the most part. The only thing that would erase all blame from her was Sevika’s survival. Singed had a lot on his plate right now, your staring and visible shaking wasn’t exactly helping. “I’m a little messed up myself right now, but I can hold off on shaking so violently - think you could do the same favor for our friend here?” He’d asked in a less than pleasant but more than understandable tone, especially given the parts of his face that looked like they might melt off any second.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m-” “- enough of that, just hold her still and we’ll all live to get blown up another day” you couldn’t help but chuckle - if the scientist who is falling apart in front of you can crack a little joke the least you could do was laugh. Ran came in, still shaken up from the events of the night, and sat next to you taking your hand that wasn’t cradling Sevika’s into their own. “Are you ok?” they asked, hesitating because they knew you weren’t, of course. “Sure” you lied, tears threatening to spill as you squeezed Sevika’s hand. “I’m fine, why wouldn’t I be?” You stared at Ran, hoping they’d buy your lies and leave you alone. “Are you an idiot? That explosion couldn’t have rattled your brain that much, I see how you stare at her. She’ll be ok”. You breathed out a sarcastic laugh “yeah, you and all your medical expertise sure are giving me hope right now, thanks Ran” “look - I didn’t mean it like that, all I’m saying is that I know you give a shit about her, that’s not a bad thing you know? I’ll be with Silco and Jinx” (Jinx, you made a mental note to remember the name of the girl formerly known as powder who you’d last seen sobbing with arms wrapped around Silco’s waist) “we’re holding up at the last drop while we figure this all out - Vander’s gone, we did it - she’ll be fine and then we can really start the fight for Zaun” “Yeah, ok Ran” you sighed disheartened. Everything had worked out - but you wouldn’t feel better until life returned to her face - she’s been out of it for so long that you’d kill for one of her mean comments or snarky looks she saves only for those closest to Silco and the cause.

After Singed successfully removes what was left of her arm she sacrificed saving Silco she began to stir. Groaning catches your attention as you grasp even tighter on to her remaining arm. “Sevika? Sevika, we’re here you’re ok I promise” you knew you had no right promising such a thing but she had to live. You didn’t know the possibility of a reality where anything different happened. Slowly she regained some color in her face, hand squeezing yours (you try not to focus on the lack of on the other arm), and as her eyes open you see the drive she had in them turn into something darker. Not being able to even come close to understanding what she's been through you understand the role you have is that of support. Support, ready to help, ready to fight, ready to sacrifice yourself for anyone in the cause including her - you were a nobody but right now you were the nobody holding her hand. And that was enough for now.
