Hermione’s Decision
Triangulate
Description: "Tell me, Ginny," Hermione said with tears in her eyes. "What's a girl supposed to do when her best friend is dating the love of her life?" HG X HP X GW AU
Chapter One
Hermione took out a roll of parchment and her quill; she dipped it into the ink on the table and began to write, a cauldron bubbling in her room… Now that she'd been made Head Girl, she was able to spend more time alone and experiment with magic as much as she liked.
It was all a ploy to get her mind off the thing that was starting to bother her the most; her best friend was dating her other best friend, the one she happened to be in love with since first year.
Hermione raked a hand through her thick, curly hair. She bit her lower lip, deep in thought.
It was all her fault. She should have told Ginny how she felt. But she'd never had many female friends, even Ron and Harry had been hard to come by. Hermione knew she had what others considered a difficult personality and was grateful for her current friends' acceptance of her as she was. Hence, her cowardice. Hence, her stupid hope that Ginny and Harry would never get together; last year, he'd been dating Cho, and she'd been busy dating other guys…
Then, when Cho and Harry broke up, so did Ginny and Dean.
It was as though the world was conspiring against her.
What was she to do?
What could she do?
She thought she'd get over Harry. Harry was popular and famous and liked pretty girls – then again, Krum had liked her…
She attempted to put her thoughts to paper to put her mind at rest and her soul at ease, but each attempt culminated in utter failure. The more she wrote, the less she liked herself. If she were logical, she would have accepted her fate and moved on. For the first time in her life, Hermione found herself feeling and thinking illogically.
She glanced at the invitation on her table. Tonight, a dinner hosted by Horace Slughorn would take place. She had planned on staying home and studying, but she knew as long as her mind was in such overdrive, she would never be able to retain a word of her coursework. Books had been her solace, but now she needed something more potent to get her mind off things.
She knew Harry would be there.
She bit her lip again.
What was she about to do?
She raked a hand through her hair again.
She would go. She would just go and see what would happen.
Instead of books, she'd choose high heels and champagne tonight.
A choice she had only done once before, at the Yule Ball. One of the best worst nights of her life.
Let's see what happens this time, Hermione thought, biting her lip.
