Introduction of the Veil
The veil of death was located within The Department of Mysteries, on the ninth level of the Ministry of Magic, in a room that the unspeakables referred to as the death chamber.
The dimly lit room was large and rectangular. At first glance the room looked almost identical to a wizengamot courtroom, stone benches lined the entire room but there was one glaring difference. In the center of the room was a sunken pit and what emerged from the pit on a dais was a tall, pointed, old stone archway.
A black tattered curtain hung across the front of the crumbling archway. The curtain fluttered sometimes as if someone had just brushed up against it or as if a nice breeze blew through it; however, that was simply impossible. There was no possible way for someone to touch the curtains of death and the chamber had an unsettling stillness about it that allowed no breeze to pass through the stale chamber.
Sometimes the unspeakables claimed they heard voices calling out to them through the veil, others claimed to see a bright mist behind the curtain.
The unspeakables had to take turns working on the veil, most feared its mysteries, and others swore the veil was saturated in death magic, so much so that it gave them the chills.
They had been studying the veil of death for centuries now.
There were still several unanswered questions the unspeakables had about the veil itself. Where did this mysterious object come from? Who made the veil of death? Why was it there?
There was one thing the unspeakables knew without a doubt though, once you go into the veil you never come out.
