The Seer
Nerine now understood the tension between Phoena and her dad. Knowing about her suspicions made Nerine wary of Mr. Ollivander. As unsettling as it was, especially since she had just been introduced to the world of magic, it made her excited to solve this mystery. What did the magic compass do? What happened to Daphne? Does Ollivander know the answers?
That night, before the family settled in their respective bedrooms, (the house seems bigger on the inside having a strange amount of extras) Mr. Ollivander proposed that for Nerine’s birthday next Saturday, they would go to Diagon Alley.
Afterwards, the Champagne family would have to go back to the muggle world in France. They should be moved in by the summer before Nerine goes to Hogwarts. However, Nerine is weary about the logistics of a muggle family moving into a wizarding village.
The seer didn’t make that notion any better. There was a knock on the door the next morning. They all were having a wizard-made breakfast, the pots, and silverware had worked together to make. Nerine felt like she was Belle in the Beast’s castle. When Nerine heard the knock, she stood up from her chair that faced away from the door and turned around to watch Ollivander open the door. A woman with glassed-over eyes, stark blonde hair, pale skin, and looking to be of East Asian descent walked straight inside with no words.
“This is Chelsea, she is the neighborhood’s seer.” Ollivander didn’t seem shocked by her.
“Hello,” she whispered in a quick manner. Her demeanor and appearance were wraith-like. Even though she was blind, she moved immediately to the kitchen table and sat. Her head and eyes moved in synchronization.
“Nerine, Nerine, I want to read your cards, I do.” Hypocritical to her straightforward words, she sounded very timid.
“Oh, ok” Nerine murmured, slowly sitting back into her seat.
Chelsea pulled out a box from the parcel that hung on her shoulder. Then, she shuffled them and placed three random ones on the table face down. She pulled out a wand from her bag, a red light was blinking from it.
She tapped the first card on her left and it flipped over. Chelsea’s eyes were looking straight into Nerine’s. Nerine stared at them, studying their glassiness and pale blue color. They raised when she had tapped the card, in surprise it seemed.
It took Nerine some effort to look at the card, it was labeled “The Tower”. People fell out of it as it was being destroyed by lightning.
With no words, she tapped the middle card labeled, “The World”, a woman with two rods floated in an abyss. As quickly and silently as she tapped the first two, she tapped the third. “The Empress” had the female symbol next to a queen who sat the throne.
Chelsea didn’t look pleased, in fact, she looked horrified. She swallowed before pointing at the first card, “‘The tower’, your past, ‘The World’ your present, and ‘The Empress’ your future.”
She slid each card back into her deck and put her deck back into her box.
“Wait, won't you tell me what that means?” Nerine asked, watching Chelsea put her wand and deck into her parcel.
“I’m not sure, I-” she quickly stood, Nerine followed.
Letha put a hand on her daughter’s shoulder and Ollivander rose to meet Chelsea at the door.
“Oh, well, have a good day then Chelsea, thank you!” He said, and as quickly as she came, the seer left.
