What's on the paper?!
Give a child a family
There are 70,000 children in foster care in the UK. The world may not change if you adopt a child but for that child, their world will change.
Meet your future son or daughter in London, Kensington Gardan, Monday 24th July to Saturday 29th July 1989, from 2 pm to 5 pm.
The week starts and Severus feels completely out of place.
He had used the previous weeks to prepare Spinner’s end to house a child.
He still has this hope, that he can simply have her adopt by someone else, but the only ones who he would trust with a child and knows would take a child in, are the Mallfoys. He does trust them, but he knows if the Dark Lord comes back, he will find out about both of the twins as well as the abilities with runes. He had the thought, that the girl might not be so good in runes, it crashed a moment later when he realised that a mental connection as good as the one, they seemed to have meant, they would both know how the paper ward works.
Still, maybe he finds some magical family, which is not connected to the Dark Lord and can keep her save… Maybe. Please.
According to the information flyer he got at the entry not all children are everyday there. A lot of the children travel there early in the morning, stay for the day and then depending on their travel time stay the night at the orphanage outside of London which organises the event, or travel back to their place of residence.
After walking over the event space once, Severus finds an empty bench and watches the children from there. Using his magic, he tries to sense for a magical child. Considering how powerful her brother was and the knowledge that magical twins are in balance, she must be powerful enough for him to detect. He hopes so, at least. Because no matter how good the glamor on the glasses had been, siblings do not necessarily have the same hair or eye colour.
He still looks for a mop of dark almost black hair. He knows Hades hadn’t worn his glasses that night. The darkness could’ve made his hair look darker than it truly is, but it was better than not having any feature to focus on.
The second day he already starts feeling out with his magic while walking around. And again when he sits on the bench.
On the third day the bench becomes his.
On the fourth day the voice in his head, that says he is stupid and should just give up, manages to become more pronounced. He continues to ignore it.
On the fifth day, he considers, that he already missed her. He hadn’t tried to reach out while walking around on the first and even though it was possible that she was powerful. That didn’t mean Severus would be able to detect it. Hades had a very good hold on his magic. He had known that Hades had hidden some of it. And he had been around him for days.
Half an hour before the end of the day he hears a voice coming from the left. This isn’t something unusual per se, there are a lot of voices all around. But what the voice says is: “That’s called stalking, you know.”
He turns his head in the direction the sentence came from. A girl is staring right back at him, about 9 years old with the same raven black hair the child had.
Just to make sure she’s the girl he’s looking for Severus feels out with his magic, only for it to recoil the moment it touches the girl, because of the feeling of being pricked by needles.
What a weird sensation. He never even knew you could prick magic.
“Don’t touch me!” The girl, now seemingly angry, pulls into a defensive position, arms close to her body, hands free. She glares and then turns and walks to a tree.
Severus needs to concentrate to keep her in his line of sight, notice-me-not, he realises. Clever. After she reaches the tree, she looks around and realises he is still looking at her. She glares some more and then jumps (flies) obviously with the help of her magic to sit on a tree branch. She pulls a book out of a bag, which hangs from a nearby branch and glares some more at Severus while opening it.
Severus breaks eye contact, because of the raven sitting on another branch. It’s as black as the girl’s hair. Severus doesn’t remember seeing it fly to the branch. It must have already been there when the girl jumped. It hadn’t made any movements of fried, which would mean it either didn’t sense her jump (highly unlikely, even non-magical animals tend to sense movement) or it wasn’t bothered, which if it was hers would make sense. But she was in the muggle world and having a raven would definitely be weird, maybe even impossible, considering her situation.
