I feel the Rush
Shauna's fingers hovered over her phone, her thumb twitching with the urge to tap. Fuck it. She refreshed Jackie Taylor's Instagram for the millionth time that day. There she was again, Little Miss Perfect, grinning in her sorority letters like she'd won a fucking prize.
"Jesus Christ, Shauna," she muttered to herself, "get a grip."
But she couldn't look away. Jackie's smile, her effortless poise, the way she seemed to own every inch of space around her - it was intoxicating. And infuriating. Shauna zoomed in on the photo, scrutinizing every detail. Was that a new necklace? Of course it was. Jackie probably had guys lining up to buy her shit.
Shauna tossed her phone aside, only to snatch it back up seconds later. This was pathetic. She was pathetic. But she couldn't stop. It was like picking at a scab, satisfying and painful all at once.
The Rush Week flyer on her desk seemed to mock her. Join a sorority? Her? It was laughable. She could already hear Tai's snarky comments. But then again, why the fuck not? She survived a freshman orientation and stupid New Jersey. She could handle a bunch of basic bitches in matching t-shirts.
"Fuck it," Shauna said aloud, grabbing a pen. She scrawled her name on the sign-up sheet, her handwriting jagged and angry. This wasn't about Jackie. It wasn't. She was just... exploring her options. Yeah, that's what she'd tell anyone who asked.
She glanced back at her phone, Jackie's face still glowing on the screen. Something twisted in Shauna's gut - envy, desire, rage. She couldn't name it, didn't want to. Instead, she let it fuel her, a familiar fire burning in her chest.
"Game on, Jackie Taylor," Shauna whispered. "Let's see what you've got."
She closed Instagram and opened her notes app. If she was going to do this, she'd do it right. Time to plan. Time to become the kind of girl who belonged in Jackie's world. And if that meant becoming someone else entirely? Well, it wouldn't be the first time.
Shauna's lips curled into a smile . Sweet, quiet Shauna was going Greek. And heaven help anyone who got in her way.
