This story is the owner of my beginnings as a fanfic writer. Originally created in Spanish five years ago, now I translate it to English to pay it tribute and thank it for starting this amazing journey. It’s a little bit shaky from every angle you can possibly see it from, but I love it, and I hope you do too.

Extra- Emma does not trust

Emma lay on her bed, her head a labyrinth of emotions. The events of that day, mixed with everything that had happened during the week, had overwhelmed her, leaving her collapsed on her bed with an equal desire to cry and jump around like a puppy about to go on its daily walk.

Emma's week had begun with the discovery of a new world, a world that had always been there but that everyone failed to see. A different and crazy world: the world of magic. An old, strict lady, who nevertheless seemed kind, wearing a pointy hat, a kind of bathrobe covering her body, and holding a majestic wand—at least for a wand—had appeared at her house. The lady introduced herself as McGonagall, a professor at Hogwarts, the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. McGonagall explained to both sisters, Lisa and Emma, about the magical world, telling them they were witches and that they had been accepted into Hogwarts, a place where they could learn to use their magic, a place that would introduce them to the world of witches and wizards. The two sisters couldn’t have been happier and more excited; not only did things and places they had only imagined in their wildest dreams exist, but they were also part of that world.

Excited as she was, Emma ran to her best friend Mia's house. They were inseparable, best friends, almost like sisters. Emma even considered Mia more of a sister than her own blood sister. Mia and Emma knew everything about each other, and their acceptance into Hogwarts was no exception; McGonagall’s warnings to keep quiet were forgotten.

Emma had confided another secret to her best friend, one more added to the collection of secrets Mia knew about her. Just as Mia had kept every secret and piece of information Emma had entrusted to her so far, Emma expected nothing less with this last one. Little did she know what jealousy could do to a relationship that was already on shaky ground—a relationship that had been sliding off a cliff for some time and was now nearing the final blow that would break everything, a relationship that was like riding a tandem bike up a mountain but only one person was pedaling. Little did she realize that the piece of information she had just shared, with the best intentions, had been the final push for her best friend to lose it.

Emma had spent the entire week too excited and nervous about the upcoming visit to Diagon Alley to notice the constant whispers that followed her every time she stepped into school. It wasn’t until she had experienced the excitement of visiting the famous Diagon Alley that Emma began to hear those whispers chasing her, people looking at her strangely and pointing. Emma had become the juiciest gossip, the kind that everyone knew about and talked about. When your deepest secrets, your darkest and most poisonous thoughts come to light, shared by no one other than your best friend, it’s easy to become the main subject of gossip.

Emma decided to confront Mia in search of an explanation, searching for something, anything, to make her feel better or at least provide answers. Unfortunately, her conversation with Mia only caused Emma to collapse further. “Why did you do it?” Emma asked, only to be met with another question: “Don’t you really know why I did it?” Mia replied, receiving a head shake from Emma in response. “YOU REALLY DON’T KNOW? Emma, you have it all and more: a family, a father, a mother, a sister, a puppy, a calm and safe environment to live in, and now you’re a witch with magic and you’re going to this amazing school. Isn’t that enough?”

Emma had run out of her friend’s house, tears streaming down her face, feeling betrayed by her friend out of jealousy for things she couldn’t control. Everyone now knew her secrets, her thoughts, all because of a jealous friend. Emma wondered if Mia had truly been her friend. She doubted it.

Reflecting on their years of friendship, Emma couldn’t recall a single moment when Mia had shared anything important about her life. All she remembered was Mia telling her trivial things like she had bought a t-shirt, eaten her favorite food, or gotten angry with her brother. Emma couldn’t help but feel betrayed; she had given Mia her complete trust, sharing her greatest secrets and worries, but Mia, in the five years of friendship they had, hadn’t trusted her enough to share even one thing that truly concerned her or, in other words, was “important.” In that moment, collapsed on her bed, Emma promised herself she would never trust anyone again. She vowed that she wouldn’t let anyone betray her like that again, not ever.
