“You should publish it,” Lily said, out of nowhere.
Remus and Lily have been silently working on their respective tasks for over an hour. Lily has been Remus’s best friend since their first year in university when they both had a religion class together.
“The book?” asked Remus, confused about what they were talking about.
“Yes, Remus, your book,” Lily answered, rolling her eyes as if it weren’t obvious, Remus thought about it briefly before shrugging and returning to his work. They were sitting in a coffee shop that they discovered in their second year of university and both have been going there frequently since then. The coffee shop was run by a friendly old lesbian couple whom Remus and Lily have gotten close to over the years, Poppy and Minerva. They both worked in the coffee shop during and after their uni years until they both had stable jobs but always came back once a week.
Nothing was said until the clock hit 7 pm and they both started packing.
“Are you gonna publish it?” Lily asked, this time, actually expecting an answer.
“I’ll think about it,” Remus answered truthfully. “What was the company’s name?”
“Potter Prints! I’ll send you their website later,” Lily said, sounding excited, “And please for the love of God, actually think about it, It’s an amazing book.”
*
Remus did think about it when he got home. He had submitted his work to another company before and he had been rejected so he never bothered telling Lily about it. He knew some authors took years of rejection before a company accepted their work and published it, he just didn’t think he could handle all that rejection. He opened the link Lily had sent him and submitted his work mostly to get Lily off his back. Potter Prints wasn’t a big company. It was local and had released a few books that had made it to New York’s Best Sellers, so they had a good record.

The subject of his novel hadn’t crossed his mind since he submitted his work to Potter Prints two weeks prior, which is why he was caught off guard when he saw an email addressed to him by the company.

Good Afternoon, Mr. Lupin,
My name is James Potter and I work for Potter Prints. I wanted to inform you that the company would love to move forward on helping you release your novel, we’ve had a look at it and everybody at Potter Prints has been collectively impressed by your work! I have, however, noticed that you didn’t have any sort of cover art attached to your form, and if that’s the case, we would be pleased to get you in contact with a very talented artist from our company to work with, but again, if you do have your own cover art then by all means, send it our way! With that being said I would love to have a zoom meeting with you to talk in further detail on the subject of your novel. My schedule is free from 2 pm-6 pm, Mondays to Thursdays, if these times aren’t suitable for you, please do inform me and I’ll manage to find another colleague to assist you.
Hope to hear from you soon,
James Potter

The email was sent three hours ago, and Remus’s first thought was to call Lily.
“Hello?’’ Lily answered, with a confused tone, which was fair as they never did calls; they had always preferred texting over calls.
“Potter Prints emailed me back saying that they would love to work with me,” Remus said, all too fast.
“Remus that’s great!’’ Lily said, maybe more excited than Remus felt. “Have you emailed them back?”
“No, I just read the email like a second before calling you,” He answered, honestly and without delay.
“Dear God, Remus! Hang up and answer them!” she told him with that ‘Lily tone’ that tells you that it would be better just to do what she says.
“Yeah, okay,” Remus murmured. “Just wanted to call you to let you know.”
“Well, thank you for telling me Remus,” She answered, sounding sincere. “Love you, text me when you email them back.”
“Will do,” he said. “Text you later, love you too.”

Greetings James,
I am so thankful that Potter Prints decided to give my book a try. I am very glad you guys enjoyed my book. Sadly I do not have any art for it. It would be lovely if I could get some help on that front. As for the Zoom meeting I am free on Wednesday at 4 pm. Does that work for you? Thank you again for giving my book a try.
From,
Remus Lupin
