Summary
James was his sun, the life that runs through his veins. The thing that keeps the light in regulus' eyes. His escape from reality, from the standards set by his parents. By whom we don't not speak of. By himself. But it wasn't enough. Love is a fickle thing, love can bring joy and happiness. Yet, love can't win wars. Love can't save lives, love isn't enough.

Chapter 2

His star was gone. His star was gone and james can't breathe.

It's as if a part of him died in that cave too, he felt it. He felt as the crushing grief fell on him. Moments before sirius' painful sobbing, moment before outrage along the table of dark greens.

It's as if the world blurs, looking up and catching eyes with barty and he knew.

He knew regulus was gone. He knew his star, his other half, his love, was gone.

He ignored the worried glances, confused expressions as he stands. He ignore the shouts as he leaves the hall.

His back hits the wall of the empty classroom, sliding down it as his eyes brim with tears. It hurts, it fucking hurts

He doesn't even notice as a lily seeps its way through the cracks of his heart, blooming and creating a beautiful mess.

As she holds him in a tight embrace, whispering words of comfort that sing a sweet melody in james' mind.

He doesn't notice as the cracks and aches of his stars loss don't threaten to engulf him as he sits with her on the astronomy tower.
The thoughts of jumping and joining his love dimming to a quiet hum.

He falls easily into her welcoming arms, as a flower would welcome the sun.

He gazes into bambi eyes identical to his own and feels his heart ache at the hint of grey in them. The same grey that belonged to his star, the grey of a storm. The grey of the tides of the sea in james' mind as they sweep him away.

He laughs along as his son walks to him, a sound that could make the cruelest of the gods hearts turn soft. He laughs through the thought in his head of regulus never seeing this, he laughs through the constant space in him that regulus will always occupy.

Even as he lays in death, wand just out of reach and vision starting to fade. Through the haze of guilt, of worry for his lily and harry, of confusion, of fear. He feels slight comfort in the thought of rest, in the thought that he will finally be reunited with his love.

The sun will once again have its star, and flowers will paint across the ground beneath.
