Fight For Me
The Marauders walk out of the Great Hall, leaving Regulus alone to collect his things. Regulus pulls his sleeve down over the small red mark that was made by Sirius, he puts his notebooks and artbooks in his bag along with his pencils and pens. Regulus didn’t notice that he wasn’t as alone as he thought, James Potter was approaching him.
James says to Regulus “you shouldn’t have bowed down to the swatch dogs and coke-heads. They’re going to crush that guy.”
Regulus looks up at him “I’m sorry, what?” Regulus studies James for a second, he could tell that the Gryffindor is an outcast like him. It takes one to know one.
James shrugs “clearly, you’ve got a soul. You just gotta work harder on keeping it clean. ‘We are all born marked for evil.’” He starts walking away.
Regulus quickly grabs his bag and follows James, intrigued “um, okay. Don’t just quote Baudelaire at me and then walk away, excuse me.”
James turns back to face him. Regulus stops in his tracks, if he took one more step he and James may as well be kissing. What? No. He pushes the thought to the back of his mind. Why would he have such a thought? He’s only just met the guy.
Regulus clears his throat “I didn’t catch your name.”
James chuckles a little “I didn’t throw it.”
Barty and Evan enter the Great Hall, both of them stop and look at James and Regulus.
Barty asks moodily “who’s that guy in the jacket think he is anyway, Jack Nicholson?”
Evan shrugs “Regulus’ into his act, no doubt.”
Barty glares at James and looks at Evan “let’s kick his ass!”
Barty and Evan walk up to James.
Barty puts an arm around James’ shoulder “hey, sweetheart! What did your boyfriend say when you told him you were moving to Scotland?”
Evan looks at James, seeing Barty put an arm around James had set off some kind of anger within him, an anger he can’t describe “my buddy Barty just asked you a question.”
Barty grins at Evan “hey, Evan, doesn’t the cafeteria have a ‘no fags allowed’ rule?”
James says to Barty “they seem to have an open-door policy for assholes, though.”
Evan glares at James and says to Barty “hold his arms.”
The three boys start fighting and James knocks Barty and Evan both to the ground. Regulus had taken a few steps back the moment that Barty and Evan had wandered over. He watches the scene unfold. The foolishness of boys. He has to admit though, James did make fighting look good.
Why, when you see boys fight, does it look so horrible, yet, feel so right? I shouldn’t watch this crap, it’s not who I am. But with this guy, damn. Hey, Mr. No-Name-Kid, so, who might he be? And could he maybe fight for me? And hey, could he face the crowd? Could he be seen with me, and still act proud? Hey, could he hold my hand? And could he carry me through no-man’s land? It’s fine if he doesn’t agree. But I would fight for him, if he would fight for me. Let them drive us underground, I don’t care how far. He can set my broken bones, and I know CPR. Well, he can punch real good. He lasted longer than I thought you would. So, hey, Mr. No-Name-Kid, if some night you’re free, wanna fight for me? If you’re still alive. I would fight for you. If you would fight for me.
After the fight Barty and Evan are pretty banged up. Barty groans a little, walking over to Evan “oh, that sucked!”
Evan looks at Barty “that kid fights better than the real Jack Nicholson. Hey, have you ever seen “Easy Rider”? Jack is actually hot in that movie”
Barty jabs Evan in the side “fag!”
Evan rolls his eyes and shoves Barty “shut up!”
Barty jabs Evan again “Evan’s getting off to a Muggle dude tonight!”
Evan groans “shut up!”
Evan shoves Barty out of the Great Hall. Regulus looks around for James but he’s already left. He sighs to himself and laughs a little before leaving.

Regulus and The Marauders are in the Gryffindor common room. Sirius is sitting on Remus’ lap, flirting with him as per usual. Peter is dozing off on the couch and Regulus is sitting drawing on a chair. He can’t seem to get James Potter out of his mind, he wonders where he disappeared off to because he hasn’t gone back to the Gryffindor common room or to his dormitory.
Sirius looks over at Regulus “Merlin, Regulus, drool much? You were totally throwing your boxers at that kid earlier.”
Peter and Remus let out forced laughs. If they hadn’t, Regulus presumed that if they hadn’t Sirius would have kicked off.
Sirius looks Regulus up and down “and judging by your fashion sense, you can’t afford replacement boxers.”
Sirius glances at Remus and Peter after a moment and they force themselves to laugh again.
Regulus looks at Sirius annoyed “come on, I don’t even know his name.”
Sirius says “oh please, you don’t need to know his name to want to sleep with him.”
Regulus rolls his eyes and stands up “real mature, Sirius.” He picks his bag up and leaves the common room. Merlin, Sirius really gets on his nerves. He refuses to let himself turn out like him, he wants to please his parents. Not disappoint them.
