Abomination cake
Regulus Black is a man who's good at very many things; writing, driving, running, hiding his emotions, remembering dates and painting are a few examples of things he's good at. Baking is not one of them. This is a problem, because he really wanted to bake his boyfriend, James Potter, a cake for his birthday tomorrow.
He found a recipe for a chocolate cake online, convinced James he should go out with Sirius, maybe sleep over at his house, and do something fun ("You deserve it, I can handle one night without you"), took the car to the store and bought all the ingredients, and tried his best to follow the recipe. His best though, as it seems, was not enough. He let's out a deep sigh at the abomination that was meant to be a cake in front of him. The batter expanded out of the cake form in the oven, and it somehow looks both undercooked and burnt at the same time.
Not only does it look hideous, but after taking off a bit of it with a fork Regulus can confirm that it tastes worse than what he would imagine dirt mixed with rotten eggs would taste. Or maybe he's just dramatic. The point is that whatever sorry excuse of a cake it is he has made, it's very much not edible. Which is a real shame, because he only has until tomorrow until James comes home, and there is no way he can give him this.
Now, normally when Regulus has an issue doing something, the first person he would go to for help is James. This is at the moment not an option, seeing as that would ruin the surprise entirely. The second person he would go to is his brother, Sirius, but this is obviously also not an option, since Sirius is supposed to make sure James doesn't get home. Other people Regulus could ask for help include Barty and Evan but, as much as Regulus loves Barty and Evan (not that he'd ever tell them as much) he doesn't believe they'd be of much help here. That is, of course, unless he'd like to set his house on fire (he doesn't).
This leaves one person in his very short list of friends that he could possibly ask for help; Remus Lupin.
Regulus pulls out his phone and calls Remus. The phone gives four beeps before he answers. "Did you burn your kitchen down?" is the first thing Remus says, which, okay fair, but that doesn't mean Regulus likes it. If it were anyone else, he might even get offended. It's Remus though, so he kind of expected it.
"Okay, fuck you, no I did not," He replies back, a small smirk playing on his lips. He leans against the desktop, pushing the so-called cake away. Remus gives a disbelieving hum. Regulus rolls his eyes even though he knows Remus can't see it. "I may need help with baking though," he adds after the silence has dragged out for too long.
There's a sound on the other end of the phone, he assumes it's Remus moving something. "Called it."
"Can you help me or not?"
"Give me five minutes, I'll be there"
