Chapter 1
Chapter 1/Intro
Regulus Black should be considered the perfect heir. He’s intelligent, stays out of trouble, callous, an extraordinary seeker, and now represents the Most Ancient and Noble House of Black quite well.
What more could his parents want?
He could say they want him to be better. The best. He could say they want him to be something, everything. But he knows the real answer.
Sirius.
That’s what his parents want.
Even after all his years of causing constant commotion. Being a nuisance. Rebelling without a care. Running away and leaving his family behind. That’s who his parents want their remaining son to be. Regulus is the spare. Nothing more. He had this epiphany at just 7 years old. While other children his age were being taught how to ride a broom, Regulus was taught he has and always will be inferior to his darling older brother in every conceivable manner. While this may seem like a dramatic statement, it’s what his mother told him. Verbatim. And the worst part?
Regulus can’t even disagree.
Sirius has a reputation for being a chaos junkie, a slag, dramatic, an arrogant prick, ect. Maybe those things are true, maybe not. Ok some of those are definitely true. Sirius is effortless in every aspect Regulus fails to be. The older boy has top marks in nearly every class without so much as touching a book. His teachers clearly admire him even if they refuse to acknowledge it. It’s rare to see someone who hasn’t been charmed by Sirius Black at one point or another. Other than Slytherins, of course. Regulus has known this for years. He’s had his fair share of pity parties over it, but that was years ago. He’s accepted things won’t ever change, there’s no point in expecting things to get better.
There are two skills however, that Regulus has mastered that his awe-inspiring brother never seemed to grasp. Those being keeping his head down with his mouth shut, and performing. Sirius always had to take it too far, it was never enough for their parents to be slightly annoyed (or at least more than usual). Walburga and Orion are cruel, sure. But you would think after 16 years of being their child Sirius would have learned to adapt. Of course, he just had to prove how little he cared about their opinions.
Merlin, he’s been gone for months now and he’s still haunting Regulus.
