Chapter 5

Scorpius was in the attic of Malfoy Manor with the house elf, Pipsy. He was looking for an old Hippogriff stuffie since for his 8th birthday, he had received a new one but that made it an odd number and he liked pairing up his stuffies.

While going through a box of older items, Scorpius was intrigued when he had found a silver frame with a turned over picture as well as some books, a silver mask and a wand.

He was surprised to see a wand in the box, it looked pretty cool in his opinion. It was different than the wands he was used to seeing, his father's wand was hawthorn wood, it was long and rather sleek, his aunt's wand was sugi wood with detailed and delicate carvings from the tip to the base of the core and a cloth handle and his uncle's, an oak wand that was rather crooked but he was told that his uncle made himself.

The wand he had found instead was long and thin, the wand itself was black as the handle was a silver snake with his mouth open, two green gems in place of us eyes. Scorpius placed the wand back, figuring it's best not to touch someone else's wand.

Instead he turned his attention to the picture frame. He moved the hooks holding the back in place and took it out, finding a picture.

The picture was taken in the Manor, he could tell from the background, the picture had four people in it, a younger platinum blond he assumed was his father when he was younger, he was the only one that was seated.

There were two people behind him, a cold looking man with long straight platinum blonde hair, the same silver eyes as his father, beside him was a poised woman, her head held high , a darker shade of blonde hair tied back into a waterfall braid, her hand on his father's shoulder. Next to her was another woman, she looked scary to Scorpius, a mad glint in her eyes, blackish grey frizzy curly hair and her hand was on the blonde woman's shoulder. Scorpius guessed that they were likely sisters with how similar they looked.

Scorpius had forgotten his initial reason for coming into the attic, instead now he was wondering who these people were with his father.

His father was home, in his study from what Scorpius remembered. So he took the picture, having forgotten the frame and went downstairs to his father's study.

“Father?” He called out as he entered the large study that his father used as a home office.

His father looked up from his papers, the cold scowl on his face softening into a more gentle smile “My star” he greeted, “What is it?” He asked before his eyes landed on the photo in Scorpius's hands.

“Who are these people?” Scorpius asked as he approached the desk, handing his father the photo.

Scorpius looked up at his father who looked at the picture and froze, his eyes repeatedly switching between the three faces. “Star, where did you get this?” He finally said, his voice was rather tight.

“Attic. I was looking for Tabbil, Capri needed a buddy and Pipsy was helping me look.” Scorpius explained simply.

His father nodded “Wait here darling.” Was all he said before standing up and leaving the study. He came back with both the hippogriff stuffies, handing them back and ushering Scorpius out of his office.

2/10/21.
My Little Scorpion,

I'm glad to hear you are adjusting well in Hogwarts. I miss you dearly as well, I can assure you that I'm perfectly well although I do admit I miss returning home to see you. I've been at work more than home lately though I shouldn't disclose the details in written form.

I'm glad that you're making friends especially with different houses and that you are enjoying your classes.

Could you provide more details about the slug club? I hope Professor Slughorn hasn't been too enthusiastic about you being in his class. I remember when he was my teacher, he was always a bit biased towards his favourites though I suppose it could do you good. I'll trust that you have been cautious with how you behave during mealtimes and around other students.

If anyone ever causes you trouble please do tell me so I can have it sorted myself. Please take care of yourself while you're there, I do trust the professor's are much more adequate as guardians than when I was in Hogwarts, though with McGonagall as Headmistress I'm sure you're in safe hands.

I can't wait until you return home so I can see you in person. Please. Stay safe, take care.

Love,
Your father.

7th October, Thursday 21’

Scorpius couldn't sleep again, he had another nightmare, the same nightmare he'd had for the past year. Albus wasn't awake this time, and Scorpius didn't want to wake him so he was in the Slytherin common room. The room was empty, all the lights were off but the fire was still crackling in the fireplace leaving it as the only source of light.

Scorpius hadn't paid a lot of attention to the common room before, he also hadn't noticed the trophy cabinet in the corner of the room, the light from the fire barely reached it but it was enough to see the contents.

Some trophies, some plaques, and a few framed photographs of the Quidditch teams throughout the years. Scorpius paused when he noticed a specific photograph.

Slytherin Quidditch Team, 1992.

Under that he noticed the names, particularly his father's name, Draco L. Malfoy . 1992, his father must've been 12 at the time. Is that why his father was so against letting Scorpius learn to ride a broom? Maybe he fell off and got hurt badly. His father never talked much about his life before he met Scorpius's mother. Scorpius had never really seen any picture of his father before that either, it was odd to see his father as an excited and happy child with his arms around his classmates rather than the content and poised man he was used to.

Scorpius was staring, he couldn't wrap his head around his father being so…. Not what he was used to. His father's hair was slicked back, there was a bit of a gap between his teeth, he looked slimmer, he was the shortest boy on the team but maybe he was just the youngest?

“Scorpius?”

Scorpius flinched a bit , he hadn't noticed that anyone had come into the common room. He looked over and tried to act like he hadn't been caught off guard “Cassandra, good evening.”

“Good evening? It's 2 in the morning. What in Salazar's name are you doing up?” Cassandra asked as she approached, hand on her hip. She was wearing a shirt with a unicorn riding a surfboard with the text I AM CRINGE BOTTOM TEXT and a pair of purple plaid shorts. Her hair was stuffed into a purple silk cap which looked like an oddly shaped rock.

“I couldn't sleep, what are you doing awake at this hour?” Scorpius asked as he turned to look at her.

“Ice cream.” She said simply as she approached him.

“Of course.” Scorpius nodded and turned to look back at the photo. He could hear her stand next to him.

“Wha’cha lookin’ at?” She asked while turning to look at the picture as well.

“My father, the short blonde one.”

Cassandra looked as well. “I see. Why?”

“I’ve never seen a photo of him this young.”

“Really?”

“Mhm, father never talks much about his life before meeting mother.”

“He tells you nothing? Not even about Hogwarts?”

“He mentions it. Things like the state of the dorm or the building or professors but nothing about himself.”

“Nothing at all? Wouldn’t your grandparents have told you about how your dad was as a kid though?”

“Never met them.”

“How come?”

Scorpius just shrugged, he honestly didn’t know.

Cassandra didn't say anything after that, just looking at the picture of the Quidditch team, seemingly forgetting her quest for ice cream. After a bit she started speaking again, “So do you not have any extended family then?”

“Just on my mother’s side.” Scorpius explained, Cassandra went over to the sofas and sat down, Scorpius followed taking a seat as well, “On my mother's side I have my aunt and uncle, her siblings, and my grandfather, but that’s about it.”

“Oh I see, no cousins or siblings?” Cassandra asked, crossing her arms and lifting her feet on the table. Scorpius shook his head and she began speaking again. “Lucky, usually being a part of the sacred 28 means you’re related to at least 30 people, you know Daph, Ly and me are all cousins?” Scorpius just looked at her and waited for an explanation. “Okay wait I need a piece of parchment and a quill and ink pot-”

“Just explain it” Scorpius insisted.

“Fine, fine, so, Daph’s mum and my mum are sisters and Lyrins dad is their cousin.”

“That wasn’t that-”

“But-” Cassandra cut him off. “That’s not it, You know Arron Zabini? His mum, Pansy, is our aunt, except she’s my aunt from both sides-” Cassandra continued explaining how she was related to a bunch of other people who were related to other people. Scorpius had zoned out all the names going over his head.

Scorpius was saved when one of the prefects who had apparently woken up.”What in Merlin’s name are you two doing up?” Calix asked as he emerged from the boys dorms.

“Oh piss off, it’s called having a conversation with a friend, you’d know if you had any.” Cassandra said bluntly.

Calix, seemingly used to his sister’s insults, decided it was too late to bother arguing, so he just shrugged and just went back down.

“That was rather rude.” Scorpius said as he watched as Calix retreated.

Cassandra just shrugged and continued on.

Eventually Scorpiu’s head started hurting from all the names and he interrupted her “I apologize but weren't you going to get ice cream?”

“Oh yeah, not really in the mood for ice cream anymore though.”

“How come? You seemed rather excited.”

Cassandra just shrugged, “Dunno.” She said and turned to the fire. “You know, you’re rather lucky. An only child without any cousins. Must be nice to have all the attention.”

“Well I was rather spoiled, there’s no point trying to deny that.” Scorpius admitted. He had never really thought that other children were raised differently.

Cassandra didn’t say anything for a bit, just looked at the fire before nodding, “Yeah.”

“Off to bed then?”

“Sounds good, good night Scorpius.”

“Good night.” Scorpius got up and waved, returning to the room. The room was quiet, Albus was still asleep. Scorpius went to his bed, crawling in the space next to him and falling asleep, Albus’s humming playing in his head.

First period was herbology, to Scorpius’s delight it was a lecture class. He couldn’t keep plants alive to save his own life but he could certainly read about it. He sat with Albus and Jaiden, mumbling a sorry to Cassandra and Lyrin who shot him a glare for leaving them alone with Daphne during herbology.

Scorpius took out his books and notes set up, waiting for professor Longbottom to come in. He glanced at Albus who was talking to Jaiden, it was odd, usually it was him that was in a conversation and Albus who was quietly listening, he was glad for the chance to just sit there and zone out but something was still off to him. He pushed away the icky feeling and went back to day dreaming about random things that popped into his head.

Professor Longbottom came into the classroom, greeting the students before starting the lesson. Scorpius followed along, writing notes of whatever the professor said.

“Hey, psst Scorpius.” Jaiden whispered, “How do you spell Asphodelaceae?” Scorpius tore off a piece of parchment, writing down the word and sliding it to her “Cheers mate.” She whispered as she took it.

“Why didn’t you ask me?” Albus whispered, a fake pout.

“Because Asphodelaceae has more than 3 syllables.” Jaiden stuck her tongue out, Albus gave another exaggerated pout and Jaiden snickered at his reaction. Scorpius sat there and watched them, something about their banter made that icky feeling in Scorpius come up again but he pushed it down. Albus was allowed to have friends other than him, he told himself.

The last period was charms with Gryffindors. Which meant he was stuck in a room with none other than Potty Shatman. Scorpius and the girls plus Albus had to spend around 3 minutes hyping themselves up to go in.

As expected, Shatman immediately had to poke a jab at them as they walked in, “Oh everyone look, the milksop and his entourage lobcocks have made their entrance.”

As the group made their way to the seats the girls and Albus looked visibly confused, “Is that the Gryffindor password?” Cassandra whispered as they all sat down.

Scorpius saw Rose smack Shatman at the back of her head, Albus saw it too, flashing a smile at Rose which she returned. Scorpius turned back to the girls “milksop is an insult for feminine men and lobcock means idiot essentially.” Scorpius explained. Daphne had a scowl on her face, clearly about to say something but before she could Lyrin spoke up.

“Oh great thesaurus, what would we ever do without you.” Lyrin said and performed an exaggerated bow. The other three, apparently finding what Lyrin said to be hilarious followed suit.

“Oh thank you, great thesaurus.” they said in unison.

Scorpius let out a soft laugh, “Okay okay, appreciation understood.”

Shatman didn’t try to say anything for the rest of the class, mostly because professor Bones came in.

The day was rather boring. Classes, walking around, practice. The girls and Albus had gotten better, Cassandra having managed a decent sized cloud.

“It’s not enough.” Lyrin huffed, getting frustrated as her little thunder cloud shriveled up.

“You reckon if we manage to trap one in a bottle and leave it we can wait until it grows and throw it like a grenade?” Daphne suggested.

“No… We’d have no control over it and it’d be too obvious it was us.” Albus commented, tapping the tip of his wand on his palm to try and force out sparks.

“Who knew an advanced level charm would be difficult.” Cassandra said sarcastically as she attempted to cast the charm again.

“Never would’ve guessed.” Albus added.

Scorpius was sitting on a desk nearby. He was tempted to give it a try although he wasn’t sure if anything would happen. Albus then looked at him, squinting suspiciously. “Hey… like, a few weeks ago… I woke up in the middle of the night and you got me a glass of water even though we don’t have any in our room…” . That seemed to get the girls’ attention as they looked at Albus then at Scorpius then back at Albus, “How did you do that?”

“The water charm? Aguamenti?” Scorpius answered, his eyes flickering from Albus ro the girls to Albus again.

“Wait you can cast charms?” Lyrin asked, confused, “Advanced ones at that.” She added, more confused than to sound rude.

“Well yea, I said that on the first day-”

“You said you can’t cast magic-” Daphne started.

“No, I said I can’t use a wand.” Scorpius reminded.

“Oh, right.” Daphne admitted, she then pivoted “Well how come you never tried to help us with this if you already can use charms like Aguamenti?”

“Wandless magic isn’t all that reliable for me yet, I’ve never learned this charm before and I already knew Aguamenti for a while.” He tried to explain.

The group paused, clearly trying to understand Scorpius’s side. Then Albus spoke up. “Surely an attempt won’t kill you.” He suggested softly.

Scorpius sighed, getting up from the desk, “I suppose not.”

“Oh! Are we finally getting to see you perform magic?” Cassandra said excitedly. Once that revelation was brought up, Daphne and Lyrin got excited as well. Albus seemed more amused, the four backing away to give Scorpius more space.

“I’m getting nervous…” Scorpius let out a nervous chuckle and he held up his arm, he used the other hand to grip his wrist tightly, holding it steady. He curled his middle finger holding it back with his thumb, keeping it at a flicking position. He held it for a few seconds, building up pressure.

He took a deep breath and closed his eyes.

Kataigída .

He flicked his finger and the tip of his finger flickered, a small thundering cloud forming for three to four seconds before fizzling out. Scorpius was surprised that it even worked at all, he noticed that casting charms and spells were easier as he got older but he didn’t think he could make a cloud on the first attempt. He turned to the rest of the lot and they looked equal parts surprised and impressed.

“Bloody hell mate I didn’t think your wandless magic was that good.” Albus said as his face broke out in a smile, he pushed himself off the wall and approached him.

The girls nodded, Lyrin seemed in awe as she followed behind Albus “You should’ve told us you were so good at magic.”

Scorpius shrugged, blushing a bit as the rest surrounded him while praising him, “I didn’t know it would work either- honestly, I thought maybe I’d get some mist but not a cloud.”

“On the first try at that.” Cassandra said, a bit in awe, her arms were crossed as she leaned on a desk behind her.

“Well I think we should wrap it up for today, I’m knackered.” Daphne suggested, to which everyone else agreed.

It was a warm morning, Scorpius, around 5 at the time, was currently spending it at his mother’s estate. Like the Malfoys, the Akiyatos were a pureblooded and rich family, they had a very large section of land in north-eastern Hokkaido.

Scorpius was running around the large garden, getting chased by one of his attendants playing tad. His mother’s family had human staff rather than an house elf. Scorpius had his fun and ran over to the fountain, he sat on the edge, he was thirsty but having his velvet run to go get a glass for him would take too long, he looked at the water if the fountain as his valet caught up and sat beside him, eyeing him to make sure he didn't jump on our try drinking it.

Scorpius looked at the water, wishing it was the crimson liquid he usually drank instead, and to his surprise, the air filled with the metallic smell of blood before the water was replaced with it as well. Scorpius was extremely happy, he tried to cup as much of it as he could with his hands and drank. He turned to look at his valet, who looked both horrified and appalled.

16th October, Saturday ‘21

Scorpius was not a fan of the Quidditch stadium, or the seats at least. They were far too high and nearly not as stable as he's comfortable with. Scorpius was there, with Albus, Cassandra and Lyrin, at the crack of dawn, because it was was the Quidditch tryouts for the Slytherins, Daphne was on the court along with a few other students, two second years and a few upperclassmen that Scorpius didn't care about.

Cassandra and Lyrin were sharing a thermos of what they said was milk tea on the bench in front of them and Scorpius and Albus were sitting behind them under Scorpius's parasol despite the sun barely being out yet. They were leaning on each other, Albus had already fallen asleep on Scorpius’ shoulder, not that Scorpius minded, he actually liked the weight of Albus's head on his shoulder. Scorpius did not understand what was so important about the sport of why he needed to be at Daphne’s try out. To Scorpius’s surprise, Daphne wasn’t the one who requested that all of them be present, instead it was Lyrin and Cassandra who had dragged him and Albus out, they insisted that it was about being supportive. From what Scorpius knew about Daphne she could support herself just fine.

The tryouts hadn’t started yet. Scorpius couldn’t see anything. As he sat there listening to Lyrin and Cassandra chat, he realised he didn’t know anything about quidditch aside from the fact that the game ended when the golden snitch was caught. Scorpius was tempted to ask Cassandra or Lyrin about it but decided against it.

After what felt like eons, the try outs started, not that Scorpius paid attention, until Daphne's turn came up that is. Trying to be a supportive friend, Scorpius actually paid attention to what she was doing, not that he understood it. The morning fog made it hard for to actually see anything although he could catch glimpses
of her jetting around. A few woo’s here, a couple cheers there and Daphne's tryouts had been finished. Scorpius saw her descend but not much after it.

Albus was still comfortably asleep on his shoulder. Scorpius elbowed him until he woke up. “Mate, she's done, let's go.” He said and dragged Albus to his feet. Albus blinked a bit, rubbing his eyes and yawning before letting Scorpius drag to the Great Hall for breakfast, usually Scorpius would've been in bed asleep or at the library, but he figured that he might as well spend the morning with everyone since they were already together.

Scorpius, despite not being able to digest human food, could taste most things fine other than sugar. His usual meals consisted of raw livers or intestines or simple raw meat and blood. He knew it was disgusting, he had seen his parents actively try not to start retching at the table multiple times throughout his childhood.

He grabbed a piece of toast and buttered it, eating it as Albus ate his full English breakfast, Cassandra was eating french toast, Lyrin a jammed bread roll and Daphne had made herself some buttered toast with sugar on top.

“Huh, this is the first time Scorpius's eaten breakfast with us.” Cassandra pointed out. Scorpius simply nodded as he chewed on his toast.

“It's a bit odd to see you here and have sunlight in the room, mate.” Albus said and ate his meal. No one said anything after that.

A while later Daphne started “So, Hogsmeade trip today, what's everyone's plans?” She asked and looked around.

“I'm not going.” Albus said. The girls looked at him, and so did Scorpius, this was their second trip of the year and he didn't want to go? Lyrin seemed suspicious too.

“Oh, did you not have fun last time?”

“Not that, professor Hagrid invited me to lunch.”

“Professor Hagrid?” Scorpius asked, he still hadn't memorized all the professors yet and he hadn't taken any extra classes so he didn't know most of them either.

“The care for magical creatures professor, he's a family friend.” Albus explained.

“What professor here isn't friends with your family?” Lyrin asked as she wiped her hands on a napkin.

“Professor Ferox.” Albus grumbled.

“Does he have friends?” Cassandra asked.

“I'd be shocked.” Daphne said after swallowing the last of her toast before continuing. “It's almost Halloween, we need costumes.”

“Costumes?” Albus looked up at her from his plate.

“Yeah, don't you dress up got Halloween?” Daphne asked. “We usually dress up, nothing extreme, but you know, trios and stuff from series or books.”

Albus shrugged “used to dress up to go trick or treating, what's the point of dressing up to walk around the halls?”

“Right I forgot we didn't used invite you-” Daphne said.

“What's that supposed to-”

Daphne cut him off “The school let's us students borrow one of the larger class rooms and have a Halloween party after dinner, it's nothing extreme, candies, pumpkin juice, a costume contest.”

Lyrin continued “The seniors have a more… wild party I suppose is the way to phrase it after all the juniors are sent to bed.”

Scorpius sat there and listened to the conversation, he was very intrigued having never experienced Halloween himself, he'd read about it in books, a dark and spooky holiday where kids dress up and demand candy, he thought the idea was fun, even if he'd never really be able to eat candy himself.

The conversation diverged back to costume ideas, since this was their last trip to. Hogsmeade before Halloween, Albus told the girls to pick something, a decision that Scorpius could tell he'd regret. The girls were going over five people groups they could make costumes of that'd be easy when Albus suggested Scooby doo, not that he had any clue who they were. He immediately followed up with “I want to be Scooby.”

Daphne let out a snort “you want to he the dog?”

“It's the easiest costume, brown shirt, brown pants and a collar.” He said defensively.

“Well that doesn't work, we can't get wigs and it's not like Scorpius looks like any character.” Lyrin pointed out.

Scorpius, finally decided to speak up “The point of Halloween is to be scary right? Why not go as Gryffindors?”

That got a few snickers out of the girls although Albus didn't laugh, “Now that's a horror story.”

By the time breakfast had ended, they decided on the Scooby doo gang, Lyrin had a stuffie of the dog that she was sure she could convince her parents to send by the time Halloween came, Daphne had called “dibs” on Fred, stating she knew someone with a blonde wig, Lyrin opted for Velma, and Albus was assigned Shaggy, leaving Cassandra with Daphne and the girls decided that Scorpius could be a ghost that the gang was after, promising that all he would need is some white ones to sell the look.

Scorpius was skeptical but agreed.

★,。・:*:・゚☆ 。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・★

It was around 1 o'clock, the students had already left for Hogsmeade, leaving the castle to the 1st and 2nd years along with whatever 3rd year and above who didn't want to go. Albus was right, Hogsmeade trips were the best, because Scorpius finally got peace and quiet.

They were in their dorm room which was mostly quiet for the most part anyway. Albus was getting dressed having thrown on an oak brown jumper and some brown trousers, he was “fixing” his hair by ruffling it to make it look less flat. Scorpius was laying on Albus's bed, trying to sight ache in his stomach, re-reading his copy of Uzumaki when he looked up at Albus who was standing in front of the vanity, he noticed a small detail on the seam line running along the side.

J.S Potter embroidered in gold stitching.

It took a few seconds to realise that the jumper must be Albus's brother. He must've borrowed it. Scorpius thought. Albus then turned to him.

“You want to come?” He asked as he pulled down his jumper.

“Hm? Oh, as in lunch with you?” He asked while sitting up, closing his book and setting it down on the bed.

“Yeah, no offence but I'm not an idiot, I know that whenever their friends invite me or my siblings to lunch it's because our parents asked them to snoop. I'm sure he's told my parents how I've been rather friendly with you all and I'm sure they're concerned, uncle Hagrid has a rather bad habit of blurting out things he's not supposed to.” Albus explained.

“And they've asked Professor Hagrid rather than your godfather?” Scorpius questioned.

“I'm sure they've asked uncle Nev as well and I will be dragging you to tea with him as well.”

“Should I feel threatened?” Scorpius asked, a small smile finding it's way to his face.

“Oh yeah, 100%, now get ready, let's go.”

“So I have to go with you?”

“Yep, chop chop, lunch is going to pass “

Scorpius rolled his eyes but stood up, leaving his book on Albus's bed. He headed to trunk and pulled out a black cashmere button up jumper and and black slacks, he took out a mushroom brown button shirt and left to the bathroom to get dressed, coming out after around 5 minutes with his shirt tucked in and jumper open, he tied his hair back, the different length layer giving it a rather unkempt look.

Albus whistled as he leaned on the wall with his arms crossed, “Mr fancy pants here, literally, what are those made of? Actual fabric?”

“Cotton.” Scorpius said simply as he tried to make his hair look presentable.

“Fancy.” He repeated, “Let's head out then.” Scorpius went over, grabbing his bag from his own bed and swinging it over his shoulder. The two of them headed out of the dorms, out to the castle and out to the little hut by the edge of the forbidden forest. The sun was properly out so Scorpius took out his parasol, Albus quickly got under it as well . Once they reached the hut Scorpius put the parasol back in his bag as Albus knocked on the door.

The door opened , a very large man looked down, beaming, “Albus! Glad ya’ made it” he then looked and noticed Scorpius, the smile on his face fell “and Malfoy.” He eyed Scorpius suspiciously.

Scorpius felt the same uncomfortable thickness in his blood, it wasn't as intense but it was there, the uncomfortable slime clinging to his blood as it travelled through his veins. He tried his best to ignore it as he bowed a bit “Professor Hagrid, good afternoon.” He stood up and looked up at him. The look on his face looked more suspicious than hostile as he moved out of the door to let them in.

“Well, you two’d best get a-movin' in, eh?” He held the door open and Scorpius followed Albus inside. The hut looked a bit too small for the size of the man living in it, though Scorpius had to admit it was cozy, there was fireplace, a bed and a table in the centre with two chairs. “Hold yer horses, I'll just nip an' fetch another chair.” Hagrid said and grabbed another wooden chair by the door and brought it to the table.

Now both seated , Hagrid went over to the fire to boil water, for tea, Scorpius guessed. “So, what's with the sudden lunch invite?” Albus asked, immediately making himself comfortable by leaning back on the chair with his legs spread.

Hagrid turned back and smiled at him “I ain't 'ad a proper chance to see yer all September, thought a nice lunch'd be lovely, 'twould!” His smile dropped a bit when he saw Scorpius. “Sorry, I weren' expectin' the extra company. I ain't got no more grub ready.”

Before Scorpius could say that it was okay, Albus spoke first “It's alright, he can share my plate.”

Hagrid looked skeptical as he looked be between Albus and Scorpius “And y'd be alroight with that, would ye?” he asked, not sounding like be belived it.

Scorpius immediately nodded “Yes I'm completely fine with that arrangement.” Albus let out a suppressed laugh to which Scorpius shot him a glare from the corner of his eye.

Scorpius got quiet after that, trying his best to ignore the thick slime in his veins, by digging his fingernail on the side of his nail bed, Scorpius's attention was grabbed as Hagrid made them some tea, Scorpius, despite not being able to digest either, actually enjoyed tea, so he was more than happy to receive a cup. Albus gave him a very dirty side eye when he said he preferred it black.

While Hagrid and Albus talked, Scorpius was happily sipping on his tea, his stomach already felt off since he put butter on his toast, this could definitely cause him to vomit up some bile or at a worse stomach ache but he was willing to risk it.

Scorpius glanced over at the clock, it had been an hour already, not that Scorpius was hungry, well he was, but he wasn't exactly eagerly expecting a human meal. Hagrid served the meal, if he was human he might've been a bit more eager, the smell was almost nauseating, there was sugar in something on that plate but Scorpius wasn't sure.

Albus offered Scorpius a fork, but he reluctantly took it. Albus and Hagrid continued talking, well Hagrid did most of the talking. Albus ate, Scorpius took some scrapes from Albus's plate. While Hagrid rambled about something somewhere, Albus leaned in “Not hungry?” He whispered and Scorpius shook his head a bit. Albus had a little frown but didn't push it, instead he started taking bigger bites.

Albus finished the meal quickly, Scorpius took as many descript sips from his bottle as possible to try to make the upcoming stomach ache a bit more bearable. The meal ended but of course they stayed a while to talk.

Scorpius had zoned out by the time Albus tapped his shoulder and said they were heading back, Scorpius got up, they bid their good-byes and went back. “Well that was a waste, could've just taken a nap.” Scorpius said as he followed Albus back to the dorm.

“Don't be like that, it wasn't that bad.” Albus insisted as he immediately changed clothes. Scorpius looked away, turning his back as he changed into something more comfortable.

“No, just boring, what was the point in taking me?” Scorpius asked as he put on a plain shirt.

“I du’no, I didn't want to go alone, nothing else.” Albus's voice said from behind him. Scorpius had a feeling that wasn't true but didn't push. Scorpius changed and went to flop on his bed. He was laying face down on his stomach when Albus spoke up again “you left your manga on my bed.”

“Put it on my desk.” Scorpius sighed as he tried to feel the growing rumbling in his stomach.

“Girls are gonna be back soon.” Albus commented.

“Tell them I’m asleep.” Scorpius mumbled.

Albus didn’t say anything but Scorpius heard the door open and close, Scorpius could hear the dim pitter patter of Albus’s heartbeat get quieter until it was gone, he was alone in the room. He sighed. What’s wrong with Albus? He eventually asked himself, something was up with him but Scorpius couldn’t pin down what. He debated getting up and going to find him but went against it.

Instead he stayed alone in the dorm. It was the first time since September 1st he had been properly alone. He had oddly missed it, he was usually alone at home but at Hogwarts he was always in the presence of at least one other person, whether it be Albus or any of the girls.

Scorpius enjoyed isolation for the next few hours, pretending to be asleep when Albus came back and got in his bed. Scorpius had spent the day trying his best to ignore the growing ache in his stomach.

It was after midnight when Scorpius couldn’t hold it down anymore. He got up and ran into the loo, vomiting out blood and chewed food. Scorpius’s throat felt like it was closing, everything in his stomach that hadn’t been digested was clambering along his oesophagus, bile and puke pouring out like slimy slugs. Even when his stomach was empty he kept retching despite the fact nothing but spit was coming out.

By the time he had calmed down, his head was aching, he felt light headed. The back of his throat burned. He was considering just sleeping on the floor of the bathroom but after a few minutes with his eyes closed, he managed to push himself up off of the floor, flushing the toilet, mustering enough strength to at least gargle some water and wash his face before heading back. Scorpius’s head was still light, he wasn’t paying much attention so when he saw Albus standing there holding a glass of water he jumped.

“Hey, your vomiting woke me up, I figured you’d like some water.” Albus held out the glass.

Scorpius would try to play along, take a few sips and just stomach it but he felt sick, he did not want to deal with the side effects, “No, I’ll pass.” Scorpius said as he dragged his feet along to his bed.

Scorpius settled into bed, pulling the blanket over his head. He could hear Albus shuffle closer and the small clink of the glass being set on his nightstand before returning to his own bed, after a while Albus spoke up.

“Goodnight Scorpius.”

“Goodnight Albus...”
