Prologue

August 2014

It was a hot summer day, a boring one as well, Scorpius was doing what he always did when he was alone, reading some old book from his family's library. It's not a usual activity for a 5 year old but he wasn't allowed outside and his house elf had chores to do, leaving him alone with his only companion, a large green dragon plushie he named Bob.

Scorpius was usually alone, his parents usually worked all day, but he didn't mind, he knew when they would get home they'd make it up to him with kisses and cuddles, he looked forward to it, his only problem was killing the time.

As he had chosen a random potion book he had found, something caught his eye, he couldn't read very well, needing help to pronounce a lot of words but the picture of the bottle was pretty, he also caught that it apparently smells attractive. Scorpius attempted to read the title, sounding out the letters

“A-Amo-”

“What are you reading darling?”

Scorpius was distracted as he heard the soft gentle voice of his mother, he immediately got up from the chair he was sitting on, running into her arms

“Mama! You're back early!” His little voice said excitedly, giggling as his mother picked him up.

“Mhm, not much to do and I missed my little caterpillar too much” She gently pinched his cheek before moving to leaving a gentle kiss, holding Scorpius up with one arm as she sat him on her hip.

Scorpius wrapped an arm around her neck, happily holding onto his mother, he immediately began rambling about what he had done that day as his mother walked to the chair Scorpius had been sitting.

With Scorpius on her lap, she took a look at what he was reading.

“Amortentia? That's a love potion my darling, it's powerful, you know” She explained gently “why were you looking at it?”

“I du’no” Scorpius admitted “I was just flipping pages” he tried excusing himself

“Hm… want to try and make it?” She suggested, a sly smile on her face, she was often like this, encouraging Scorpius's creativity, teaching him things he shouldn't be learning

Scorpius's silver eyes glittered, nodding “yes yes” he immediately agreed, a smile on his face as his mother carried him off to another room in the manor.

May 2015

It was damp and cold. That's the first thing Scorpius noticed when he woke up, Scorpius sat up on his bed, the seven year looked ahead, the London rain clouds had darkened, thunder and lightning flashed for a second, it was going to be a gloomy day.

Scorpius loved gloomy days.

His parents would stay home to make sure Scorpius was wearing appropriate clothing, that he avoided sitting too near to the window, that everything he ate and drank was warm so he wouldn't catch a cold. Scorpius loved being fussed over, it made him feel as if his parents were taking an interest in him, that it was another for them to show they care.

He got out of his bed, his dear dragon plushie in his arms, still wearing his pajamas as he ran to his parents room, he opened the door and got on his tip toes to look at his parent's bed, finding both of his parents in bed, a head of long black hair and another of much shorter silver blonde hair leaking from under the covers.

Scorpius smiled as he went to the bed.

“Mother, Father!” He called out in a whisper and jumped onto the bed, crawling under the covers and tucking himself between his parents.

His mother was still fast asleep, her arm wrapping around Scorpius as he nuzzled between his parents. He heard his father grumble, slowly stirring awake “You're up early…” He mumbled, his voice groggy from having woken up, Scorpius felt himself getting pulled closer to his father's chest by the one arm wrapped around him along with his mother who was pulled by his father's other arm.

Scorpius smiled, closing his eyes, falling asleep again between his parents wrapped in their arms.

Friday 31st, July 2020

It was dark, the moon outside was shining in through the windows in his bedroom, it was quiet, the perfect condition for a goodnight sleep but Scorpius was restless. He didn't attend his first year of Hogwarts, his parents choosing to homeschool him since his mother wasn't ready to send her only baby away so young and although he wouldn't admit it, Scorpius knew his father felt similarly, they had promised that Scorpius would be allowed to attend for his second year . So now, he was laying in bed restless, knowing that as soon as it was 10am he would finally be able to leave the Manor for the first time ever.

Scorpius sat up in bed, he was too restless to be able to sleep, so he got up, and went downstairs, hoping to get some reading done in the library since he wouldn't be able to sleep. As Scorpius made his way down the stairs, Bob tucked into his arm, he paused, he heard music and laughing. His parents laughter.

Scorpius started walking more carefully, making sure to be quiet as he approached the living room, he peeked his head in, wondering what his parents were up to so late in the night.

Scorpius felt happy at what he saw, he couldn't recognise the song, but his parents seemed to enjoy it, they were laughing, dancing, arms wrapped around each other. Scorpius loved seeing his parents happy and carefree, enjoying the moment.

Scorpius hid behind the wall as he watched them, he watched as his mother took his father's wand, she pretended to cast a few spells, of course nothing happened, Scorpius couldn't explain it but his mother couldn't use a wand to save her life but performed wandless magic just fine, he was always told that some people are just unique in different ways whenever he asked.

His mother then started saying a spell Scorpius didn't recognise , she knew nothing would happen but his father immediately began panicking.

“Honey, don't joke about that.” He said, trying to sound serious but was failing to hide a smile at his wife's laughter.

“You worry too much, dear, you know nothing's going to happen” she answered between giggles, his wand still in her hands.

“Well you're proving my point, you know?” He said softly, trying to take his wand back as he took a step closer.

“Ah ah, not happening honey” his mother giggled, wand pointed towards herself “come on, I'm not actually trying to-”

A flash went off, Scorpius had to close his eyes, when he opened them again he saw his mother on the ground, her eyes that are- were always full of life and love when they looked at him were now staring at him, glossy and lifeless.
