The start.
When Sirius got on the train at 11 he felt one thing, relief. Relief to finally be able to go to Hogwarts, relief to meet new people, relief to see the outside, relief to learn more magic, but most importantly, relief to be out of that house relief to grow up.
But now he didn't know where to go, he had no idea what to do, he didn't have anyone telling him what to do. That was how he worked, that was his structure, that's what he needed. He didn't have it now so his only option was to wonder around the train.
He found a cabin he thought was empty and opened the door, not expecting three other boys to be in there. His eyes widened and he quickly started to close the door before one of the other boys stopped the door.
"Wait! You can sit with us if you would like" He said. His hair was a dark brown and very curly, his brown eyes reminded Sirius of a deer, his complexion was much more tanner then Sirius' own skin but it made him seem warmer. Sirius felt drawn to this boy, not knowing whether or not he was a pureblood didn't matter to Sirius despite his mothers words. He found this boy interesting and merlin forbid Sirius stick to the rules.
Sirius was a little confused to say the least, anyone he met outside his family always looked disgusted to see him near them and stayed clear of his presence. But this boy who was maybe only a little younger then him had been so kind to him in only 10 words, Sirius liked his warmth.
"Alright then" Sirius said. He was quite used to speaking French at his home so his English was very rusty, his accent thick just like his mothers. He hated that.
Cautiously he stepped into the cabin as the boy closed it. He sat down next to one of the other boys, he had scars just like Sirius, just Sirius' scars weren't visible even to the trained eye. He had brown eyes as well, but a more stoic face and brown hair that was much more lighter then the other boy's hair. He seemed Welsh from the looks of it and did not look like a pureblood whatsoever.
The other boy across from the non-pureblood had blonde hair and seemed scrawny and wimpy, Sirius did not like him from the start. He had blue eyes, blonde hair, but seemed more like a pureblood if you could say that.
The first boy introduced himself as James Potter, as Sirius thought, a pureblood. He introduced the blonde boy next to him as Peter Pettigrew, again, a pureblood. And then the last boy which was next to him as Remus Lupin, not a pureblood. A shame that his mother had specifically said not to mixed with light purebloods and non-purebloods. He never cared for what she said anyways. He did care about how they would react to his last name though. A Black, not something he was proud of.
"My name is Sirius, Sirius Black" He said. Patiently waiting for the command to get out, but it never came. The blonde boy, Parker right? Well whatever his name is, his eyes widened in almost what seemed like fear. It made Sirius' insides twist, Sirius didn't like Philip, wait was is Patrick? No it was Peter. Right. He didn't like Peter but he especially didn't like the fear in his eyes, the boy next to Sirius didn't seem to care or he didn't know the significance behind Sirius' last name. But James, James seemed to know and not mind. It appalled Sirius, how could this boy know and still show him warmth? Sirius never got to understand that.
"Nice to meet you, Sirius" He said so casually, with that warm smile that seemed to tear at Sirius.
They talked almost the entire train ride, well James and Sirius did. Remus had his nose buried in a book, he made comments here and there but not much to count as participating in the conversation. After the snack cart arrived Parker- no Peter had ate as much as he could before he was full, talked a little before dozing off.
But James and Sirius talked for hours, non-stop, from topic to topic and to be honest Sirius could barely remember what they talked about. He just knows that was the moment he knew he wanted James in his life forever.
James is his forever.
When it was time for sorting houses, Sirius was incredibly anxious, he got like this sometimes. Like when he got his wand, or when his parents found out he was sneaking out of his bedroom past bedtime, or when he accidentally shattered his mother vase, or when he acted out at family dinner. He found ways to 'manage' it so others wouldn't see, others also would say he was just hiding it.
After anxiously waiting for his name to be called the time finally came. He walked up the steps and sat in that chair, that chair that started everything. Everything good and bad.
He remembers having many thoughts sitting in that chair, two stood out and clashed with eachother,
Please Slythiryn to make ma proud
and
Please anything but Slythiryn.
They clashed with eachother so hard it took the hat a minute to decide. Sirius' life all began and stopped at the exclamation,
"GRYFFINDOR" The hat announced it so loud it rung in Sirius' head, he felt his blood run cold and the room sway.
Almost like he was moving on autopilot, his body moved yet he doesn't remember making it move. He stood up, walked over to the Gryffindor table, sat and the edge of it, and stared at the table. The first Black to be sorted into Gryffidor, it wasn't a good thing at the time.
He sat like that until someone sat right next to him, sloppily bumping against him. He looked up at the person to see James, that warm smile, doe eyes, and curly hair nearly made Sirius forget about being sorted at all. James brought a warmth to the the coldness Sirius new all his life, Sirius never wanted to feel cold again.
"We got the same house! I'm so excited, i hope Peter and Remus get the same house of us." James said, seemingly oblivious to Sirius' internal struggle. Sirius didn't feel like talking right now, so he listened. He listened to James talk, James seemed to not mind.
