The kissing had become a regular occurrence. They both found themselves at the very spots that James and Regulus were, successfully ruining whatever mood they had got going. Rumours had spread once again, and Barty heard a hundred renditions of the truth. It was fun, this game they were playing.
Barty waited for Evan outside his class, only to see him speaking to James. He practically had hearts in his eyes as James towered over him. Insufferable. The heart eyes changed into something sour, as Evan spat out an insult at James. He stormed out of the room, only stopping in front of Barty.
‘What’d you say to him?’
‘That he would always taste me when he kissed Regulus.’ Barty laughed.
‘Why do you always find yourself in these situations?’
‘Drama loves me, and I love drama.’ Evan intertwined their fingers. After weeks and weeks of putting on an act, pretending like they were in love became easier. Barty no longer felt the unsuppressable need to jump into a dark void at the very thought of Evan Rosier.
‘You know, I heard some Year 9 saying that we shagged in the bathroom.’ Evan laughed.
‘Maybe we should give them what they want.’
‘I would rather sit bare-assed on a hot pan.’
‘Masochist.’
’You’re damn right I am.’ Barty only meant it as a joke, but the face Evan pulled was glorious.
‘I need to know less about you.’ Barty rolled his eyes, pulling the both of them into their classroom.
‘Are we making any progress?’ Barty asked, as he set down his books on the desk.
‘In English? Yeah, we’re ahead of the syllabus, why?’ Barty inhaled deeply, pinching the bridge of his nose.
‘Are you stupid? I meant with the targets.’ Evan nodded in recognition.
‘I guess? They don’t seem too affected. Maybe we need to do something bigger and something that’ll definitely get their attention.’ Barty hummed in thought. There wasn’t much they could do in school without catching the attention of teachers.
‘We could crash a couple of their dates? They wouldn’t be able to miss us then.’ Evan pitched.
‘How will we know where they’re going?’
‘Leave that to me.’ That did little to reassure Barty.
