“Regulus? Hello?” Barty waves a hand in front of his face.
Regulus snaps out of his daze, blinking up at Barty who looks thoroughly amused.
“We’re here. What are you looking at- ohh”
Barty chuckles before snatching the phone out of his hand and reading the article out loud.
“That’s you right? You’re the secret lover he’s talking about.”
Regulus rolls his eyes, snatching his phone back and taking his luggage before exiting the plane. But Barty is relentless and the teasing doesn’t stop there. It follows him all the way to their hotel. An endless stream of questions.
“Are you going to the show next weekend? We’re only in England for a little while. Who knows when you’ll see him next”
“Barty. I already told you about it. I didn’t know who he was, ok. I mean it was fun while it lasted but he’s James Potter . His best friend, James Potter. They’re in a band together. Even if I wanted to see James again, which I don’t, it would mean seeing him again and we both know I am not doing that.”
Barty seems to notice the urgency in his voice and changes the topic
Evan and Pandora arrive at their hotel an hour later with a bag full of snacks and enough movies to last the whole night. Pandora barrels forward, squeezing Regulus with all her strength, it was a hug she’d only reserved for him. Regulus smiled, holding her gently. He’s never been a hug, they all know that, but for her, he never seems to mind. They spend the rest of the night watching cheesy rom-coms and eventually fall asleep, sprawled out on the small hotel couch.

Regulus wakes up first, making himself a cup of coffee. Winter air flows through the crack in the door and Regulus curls up on his bed, throwing on a sweater and wrapping himself with every blanket he finds. It doesn’t take long before he finds himself stalking James’ instagram account, unable to fight the curiosity. There are photos of his time in France, and beautiful sceneries, and him hanging out with his friends, but it’s the posts of him performing that really caught Regulus’ eye. His presence is captivating. He exudes this energy and passion, the way his body moves in rhythm with the music. Dressed in outfits that hug his figure so perfectly, beads of sweat rolling down his body, joyful exhilaration, it’s truly mesmerising.
Evan wakes up next, creeping behind Regulus’ shoulder to peek at his screen.
“whatcha lookin at?”
“Nothing.”
Regulus quickly switches off his phone, shoving it under the covers. Evan raises an eyebrow, waiting for Regulus to tell him the truth.
“Oh come on! Barty already told me everything, it’s him isn’t it? The English boy you’re obsessed with, but won’t watch perform the song he obviously wrote about you live because of your stupid brother.”
“It’s not about him.” Regulus incists.
“Regulus, you can’t let him control your every decision. It’s been ages since you’ve talked. It's not like he cares what you think.” Evan’s voice turns soft, but the words still sting.
He was right. They haven’t talked since Regulus was 16. Since he moved to France. Since he decided to become a model, just like their parents always wanted. Sirius moved on. He got everything he ever wanted, and he did it without him. And Regulus will never forgive him for that. But a part of him desperately wanted to see him again.
“You know what. I think we should go.”
