The Loops
Day 1 Reset-1
She didn’t know why she jumped down the hole, but her experience so far was kinda fun. But why monsters blush when she says flirt, she’ll never know.
Reset-2
She was falling again. Why was she falling again! Maybe she wasn’t supposed to let anyone live?
Reset-3
She needed to get out of this loop fast, for her Dark. He wouldn’t last long if she didn’t get out of this soon. She tried killing everyone in the underground. That didn’t work, she made it down the mountain again before she was falling, again, she was trying it again but it became too much by the time she reached Papyrus, so she stopped, went on through the rest of the underground not really doing much else but walking, the LOVE-3 a damned reminder of her deeds. The execution points taunted her every step through the underground. Sans didn’t really help what she was experiencing at the judgement hall. When she left she hoped that it would be over now, she was wrong and was falling once more into the underground.
Reset-50
She fell for the fiftieth time when something changed. Change was rare, so rare that she had given up hope of ever getting out of the underground. But Sans had made a new joke, one that referenced her killing the underground, something that she hadn't done since the third time she had fallen. Later when she talked to sans about it, he said he wanted to know why. Why she had stopped killing them all, why she had that look of hope, why she didn’t stop coming back. And she answered all that she could, why she stopped, “Guilt” why her hope “Somethings changed, this is new!” and “Because I don’t get a choice!” she snarled that out while looking at something beyond, something she couldn’t see, something like a puppets cross. “I make it to the village at the4 bottom of the mountain, then I’m falling down the hole again! And I j-just wnat t-to get back to him, please Sans, help me get out of this damned loop.”
Sans didn’t know what to do. The kid wasn’t the one that was resetting the timeline, but was in fact a victim of it as well, and on top of that the kid was crying as well now.
“Hey, hey, it’s okay there kiddo please just stop crying, we’ll figure this out…” He needed information but he couldn’t get it from the kid in the state that they were in at the moment,
“How long have you been in this situation now?” It couldn’t have been that long right… Right?
Sans was so wrong.
“Fifty times… fucking fifty times…” could have been heard if Sans wasn’t alone in his lab behind the house. Frisk was sleeping in his bed, having exhausted themselves from their breakdown that happened in his room. But he couldn’t rest right now, he needed to go look at his old material for when he was an assistant for Gaster. It hurt trying to remember him but he couldn’t risk forgetting him forever. Maybe the kid could help him garther Gaster together again.
“Time to dust off the books again.”
Reset-75
Sans was making slow progress, the reason… he could only access previous memories that were from at least forty-nine resets ago, it frustrated him, having to supposedly have the same conversation with a supposedly calmer Frisk and supposedly having to restart his work each time. Sans did learn from Frisk that they did learn one thing in reset-50, they had twenty-four hours to make it out of the underground before they were forcibly reset.
Frisk was tired… She didn’t rest for 360 hours, staying up all the time with Sans as soon as she reached him, speeding through the ruins just to make it to him faster. Having a nearly exact conversation with him was getting on her nerves, but she could wait. Then she died…
Reset-76
And was falling again! When she talked to Sans again he remembered reset-16… and she was excited then. If her dying meant a reset then she could speed up the process of Sans remembering reset-50 by being killed.
Reset-98
One more time and she’d be able to have faster progress on getting out of the loop. Sans was looking at her as though he was trying to remember something important, but she knew, from a talk with Sans from Reset-76, that at the moment he thought that it was Reset-49. She just needed to die once more, but her LOVE had come back, all of it. Stacked together, she went through the motions, not even dodging anymore, not that she did since Reset-86, dodging made things go slower.
Sans was confused, he wasn’t confused often. But the kid had lost all of their livelihood, they almost seemed suicidal. They also had an oddly high health. They weren’t dodging any of the attacks thrown at them, but they didn’t die. Sans kept an eye on them all the way to Hotlands where they died…
Reset-99
And he remembered! The kids break down in his room, working to 11:59 at night, then nothing, waking up here, his alarm showing 06:00 in the morning. Sans went to his shed, and pulled off the tarp covering his white board and dusted off his books.
“Best get to work asap.” Sans muttered to himself.
10:09 AM Reset-99
Frisk breezed through the puzzles that Papyrus set up, made her way into Snowdin and into the shed that Sans had placed behind his house, Yelling out “Sans!” who peeked out from behind a big stack of books.
“Frisk, you good?” “No you won’t remember this till much later but I need you to teach me whatever it is that we’ll be using to get out of here.” “What?” “Please Sans.” “Fine. But I’ll also be working on the formulas at the same time, got it.” “Yes sir!”
10:09AM Reset-100
“Sans?” “YES” Was the reply followed by him grabbing her and spinning her round. After he finally put her down he said, “You have lots of LOVE right?” “Yes?” “Bad, but I’m taking some!” “Wha-” And suddenly she had LOVE-20. “Woah!” Sans said while collapsing backwards onto his butt. “K that was weird.” “Did you do what I think that you just did?” “You mean get my memories of the last reset? Yes. Yes I did.”
Reset-150
“So if you replace determination with apathy we could potentially break the loop, but if we want the process to be temporary we need to do it slowly and with a “clean” slate. That means you need an even LOVE-30, understood kiddo?” “I don’t like the implications but yes.” “Just leave with HATRED in your heart and it’ll turn into LOVE.” “And how long will this take?” “Fifty days?” “Are you sure about that Sans.” “Yes, fifty days is what it’ll take.”
Reset-151
Sans was right, leaving the underground with HATRED in her heart upped her LOVE by quite a bit. She didn't like being at LOVE-30 but it soothed her mind a bit knowing that she was getting out of the loop soon.
10:00 AM Reset-151
They were early, the kid always got to snowdin by 10:09. Sans wasn’t ready for them just yet, but it would be good to see if the kid had the appropriate LOVE now.
Reset-190
She could “feel” the apathy that Sans had told her she would “feel” and “hated” it. She kept going anyway, meeting up with Sans, having her emotions drained bit by bit, leaving the underground and repeating it all.
Reset-200
This was it, she could feel the embers of excitement flickering in her chest. She was with Sans at the where the barrier once was.
“Well kid, are you ready to leave this place for good?” Nodding her head she walked out onto the mountain once more.
