Chapter 2

It was 9:30 and Remus and I were sitting by the lake sharing a joint. I was taking a drag and Remus talked about his book. He was fairly high and when Remus was high he was either depressed or chatty. Today he was chatty. But I liked when he talked, especially about nerdy things he was interested in. “I just love the way he conveys Miles' grief, y’know?” I nodded and he smiled lazily.

“Yeah.”

“It's just amazing, and It was so sad. And I'm surely not watching the show because I don't want to cry again, but I purchased the DVD just in case.” He said smiley as ever.

I lied back letting the joint rest in my fingers, I wasn't really in the mood to get high and Remus didn't need to get higher. Remus lied back to look at the sky pointing to the constellations. “There's Draco, and Carina, and Orion, and Andromeda. Andromeda is such a pretty name. Sirius’s cousin named her baby that, y’know? I wanna name something like that.” He said as he pointed out the constellations with his hand in the air to me.

“Andromeda is a pretty name.” I agreed with him, even though I wasn't fully present in the conversation.

The Gryffindor Quidditch team had just finished practice behind us with a loud ass whistle, I sat up and looked behind me while Remus still lied on the ground. I saw James disappear into the locker room, and then reappear in normal clothes. Jeans and a hoodie. He walked over to us sitting down next to Remus and noticed the smell of weed that surrounded Remus and I. “Remus, are you high?” Remus nodded.

“You shouldn't do shit like that around her.” He whispered into Remus's ear. I took another drag of the joint and James noticed. “Are you high?” He almost screamed at me standing up and grabbing the joint.

“Not yet.” I shook my head.

“Not yet?” I nodded and he rolled his eyes.

“You're fourteen.” He said throwing the joint into the lake.

“You have been doing this shit since you were thirteen.” I argued but he shook his head.

“Yeah but.” He started but I cut him off.

I stood up. “No buts, you did it you can't be mad at me for, it's not like i'm getting high daily alone. I'm getting high monthly with a friend.” I said and he shook his head harder, turning his attention back to Remus.

“You let her do this?” Remus stood up too. He was two inches taller than James, because 15 year old James was still 5 '5. Remus nodded.

“She's not an idiot.” Remus said and I nodded. I wasn't an idiot. I was smarter than James and it wasn't illegal to smoke a joint on campus because Dumbledore was unaware of the wonders of weed.

“Yeah but you don't give her marijuana.” James argued, pinching his nose.

“James just shut up, alright?” I almost screamed, anger clear on my face.

“I'm sending mum a letter.” He laughed, almost bitterly as he started walking away. I followed him.

“James you better not.” I said pushing him slightly so he could face me.

“I'm going to.” He said. “You shouldn't do shit like that and expect me not to tell her. Just because you don't have a good relationship with her doesn't mean she doesn't deserve to know.” He said and I rolled my eyes.

“I never told her about you smoking.” I said and he huffed.

“Maybe you should have.”

“So i should tell her that yesterday you woke with a massive hangover because you had 3 too many fire whiskies.” I yelled. He shook his head.

“Just give me time to cool off, okay?” He groaned, pinching his nose as he walked away. I let him walk away. I wasn't interested in discussing the topic any longer. I looked at Remus 50 yards behind me. I wasn't in the mood to talk and he didn't look like he was either, so I went back up to my room and went to sleep.

The next morning In Arithmancy James sat next to me. I had only one class with the marauders because I was a year ahead in Arithmancy and they were all on grade level.

“Sorry.” he whispered to me as I opened my notebook.

“Why were you so upset?” I asked and he shook his head.

“I don't know.” He knew, and I could see it on his face. He was always quite easy to read.  He was never upset at me for anything similar to smoking before. “I'm sorry.” He muttered again, I nodded.

“I suggest you apologize to Remus.” I said and he nodded quickly.

“Yeah I did and he said I should apologize to you first.” He said sheepishly. I almost cracked a smile at this.

“Did he accept your apologies?” I asked and James nodded.

“He said he would accept it if you did.” He said, and I flashed a small smile. I liked having my thoughts validated, especially by people who I respected.

“Good, and I do. As long as you don't tell mom.” I added.

“I won't tell mom what you do.” He said, rolling his eyes playfully.
