Chapter 1

PS; Please come home, the world is so cold without you

“Sirius, you’re going to get yourself killed”

“I couldn’t bear to listen to the way they speak of him,” he winced as the damp washcloth grazed his wounds.

“All this? All this over some friend?  He can’t be worth it.”

“You don’t know him like I do, if you did you’d understand.”  Regulus scoffed at this, how could anyone possibly be worth the blood that stained his clothing crimson.  He washed the blood from his brother's face, his parents were especially ruthless today.

“You’re right, I don't know him.”

He never planned to.

The air outside was just above freezing.  Regulus had always been particularly fond of the cold, scratchy sweaters, hiding beneath the covers,  scarves.  Plus he could cover the scars, but that was just a bonus.

He never had many friends. His best friend, Lily Evans, had been taken out of school at the end of this last year.  All the other girls had left the year before, but she yearned to learn.  She truly was brilliant, never once had Regulus met a soul who cared as much for the unknown as she.  But the world of a woman cares not for brilliance.  Whisked away to finishing school, how could she possibly find the secrets of the universe beneath the apron she must dawn.

He didn’t care much for mischief, so it’s safe to say he didn’t quite fit in with his brothers group.  The worst of them was James Potter.  He’s insufferable, so cavalier and arrogant. How could his brother possibly bear his presence?

James Potter was the worst person on the planet and Regulus hopes to never see his face again.

Regulus was never known for his luck.

“So Reggie, does your mouth hurt from frowning so hard?”  Regulus ignored him.  His unkempt curls fell in front of his eyes, hiding the rich brown.  He was wearing these downright foolish red and gold suspenders that Regulus couldn’t stand.  Just looking at James made him shiver.

“You really should smile more, you’ve got this whole mysterious brooding thing going on.  I’m not sure if you’ve noticed but it’s a bit intimidating,” He received only a glare in response, though this only seemed to encourage him.

“Nevertheless, I came to tell you, me and the lads have a bit of mischief in the works.  We found these horrid smelling plants while in the forest the other night.  We’re gonna hide them in Frank's desk.  It’ll take weeks to find them, afterall he never ope-”  Regulus cuts him off.

“Is there nothing better for you to be doing than bothering me?”

“He speaks!  And no not really, this is exactly what I want to be doing.”

Regulus scoffs.

“You know you love me Reggie,” he grins.

“I assure you I do not.”  He storms away, not making it very far before James calls out.

“Hey Regulus-”

“What now?”

“I wouldn’t go to lunch today if I were you.”  He hates him.  He hates his stupid face, and his messy hair, that cocky smile.

James Potter is the worst and Regulus despises him.

Come home
