A Vision of Death-

Stretching out on the couch, I listen to Elle type away from her spot on the floor across the coffee table from me. She is updating her online portfolio with the pictures she has taken since the break ended. Jo makes little noise as she scrolls on her phone on the armchair to my left. I lay the book in my hands on my chest. I rest my eyes as I listen to the girls. Adelaide decided to go to the first game back with her friends. Leaving me to do as I please.

As my eyes close, I can feel a shift in myself. At first, all I see is black, but that soon changes. Suddenly, I am face to face with a lone Hufflepuff player high in the sky. She's panicking for a reason, I don't know. She whips her head around, trying not to look down. She is shaking. Then it happens. She falls. She tries to grab her broom but she is a moment too late. I watch from my spot in the air as she falls to her demise. The other players try to grab her, but they fail. Even as she fades to become a speck in my vision, I can still see her hit the ground. Breaking. She lays still as everyone starts to yell and panic. All other players rush towards the ground, the game long forgotten.

Then I'm back.

I heave myself up. I try to gain the breath that escaped me. I focus on my breathing before looking around.

My eyes widen when I see both girls on the floor motionless. I'm on my feet in an instant. I get to Josephine first and start to shake her, trying to wake her. She's cold to the touch. When that doesn't work, I move on to Eleanor and repeat that process. Stumbling, I get to my feet and rush towards my phone, which is on the table. I ring John. Telling him that I need help through heavy breathing. I tell him how to get into The Room and the call goes dark.

He enters The Room some long minutes later. He sees me on the ground with the unconscious girls. Telling me to grab Eleanor, he picks Josephine up and starts to the hospital wing. The walk is rushed but silent.

We enter the large doors with the girls in our arms to see that there is a group surrounding a bed. John had to call out for the head nurse to realize we were there. She rushes towards us and leads us to put the girls onto some beds away from the group of teachers on the other side of the room. As we set the girls down, the nurse starts questioning what happened. All I'm able to tell her is that I blacked out, and when I came to, the girls were on the floor, unresponsive. She pushes me back while she starts to check the girls out. I sit in the nearest chair, ignoring everything around me. John squats beside me and begins to question me as well.

"You said you blacked out. Did you see anything?" It's an odd question, but I answer honestly, telling him of my vision before coming to. His face is pensive as I explain. My words are rushed and blur together, but he follows along. He sits there momentarily before standing and starts talking to Pomfrey, a little ways away from where I sit. He comes back to me before beginning to vaguely share his thoughts.

"I think I may know what happened, but I need to do more research into it to be sure." All I do in response is nod slightly. He places a hand on my shoulder, shaking it a little before walking out of the hospital wing.

I sit with my girls until Pomfrey kicks me out when curfew hits. I'm reluctant to leave, but she reassures me she will care for my girls. My walk to the dungeons is slow as I ponder today's events. What did that vision mean? It was supposed to be a regular day, with nothing significant happening. But you rarely get what you wish for.

I'm on autopilot as I make my way through the castle. The common room is empty; the fires are lit, giving the cold room much-needed warmth. I walk up the stairs and enter my room without so much of a thought about what I am doing. This leads me to skip my nightly routine as I simply fall onto my bed without even changing from my casual clothes. Sleep doesn't come easy; all I can think about is my girls in the hospital and the vision I saw. I fall into a dreamless slumber, not knowing the upcoming change in my life.
