The school Harry goes to you can start going there at any age. So, in his old world he just was starting 8th year but since this is a new world, he/the five decided that it was necessary for him to start school as a year one student. Since this is a new world Harry needs to learn from the ground up.
The World Harry drops into is called 2 different things Morganas Seat and Darfea.
