My dear Mary,
I hope you are well. The war is terrible but light can still be found in the darkest of places. I hope your mission went well. I plan to come over with Harry after Halloween, can you believe he’s already 1? James is trying to convince me to dress him in a deer costume but Sirius wants a wolf costume. Honestly, sometimes I think I'm married to both of them rather than just James.
Do you have any plans for Halloween? If you don’t, you should come over. We’re having Sirius, Remus and Peter over. It’s been hard for him since Marlene died. He keeps saying it’s his fault but none of us could’ve known. Anyway, Remus and Sirius are both determined to be Harry’s favourite, so they keep bringing him sweets. Honestly, you would think Remus of all people would know better than to give a 1 year old sweets. I’ve asked them to stop but they’re relentless.
I’ve put a photo of James and Harry in his costume. I managed to get James to agree on a compromise of a bear. These years seem to be going by so fast with Harry and yet the war feels as though it lingers. I hope it ends soon. You-Know-Who’s reign of terror has gone on for far too long. I know the rest of us will make it out alive. We have to.
Do you remember when Marlene snuck in that muggle camera in 5th year? I still have all the photos in a box under my bed. I think those were my happiest moments, with my friends, sneaking Firewhiskey in, no cares except for homework and who we were going to go to Hogsmeade with. If I had known that this was going to happen, I think I would’ve smiled a little longer, laughed a little harder, clung to those moments with my fingertips until I had to fall into the abyss of adulthood.
Sorry, didn’t mean to get all sad on you. I hope you do decide to come to Halloween with us. I’m sure it’ll be a lot of fun. Hang in there, this will all be over soon.
