The black brothers had always been complicated. But no matter what they always knew they would always come back to each other, there would never be a goodbye.

“Sirius, please. You can’t leave.”
“Then go with me.”
“You know I can’t”
Sirius only took one look at his brother before stepping into the floo, “see you later”

Regulus startled as he walked out onto the astronomy tower “I guess this is it, huh?”
Sirius looked up with a sad smile “Yeah I guess so” he hesitated only a moment before moving to the side “sit with me?”
That is how they found themselves talking until the sun came up, *only happy memories,* they had agreed. The night was a whole lot of remembering. And for one second they could pretend they were normal brothers with normal parents who weren’t separated by a war.
“See you later” this time it was Regulus as he left the tower.

“See you later”
“Wait! Regulus stop!” Sirius chased after his baby brother. No mater that he had just sent a burning curse at him, or that they were in the middle of a battle field. This was his baby brother. Always his baby brother. “Reggie please stop!”
“If I stay I have to kill you. I can’t do that” there is no emotion on Regulus’ face. Not unless you know him. He’s afraid, tired, and most of all he’s sad. “Just go Sirius”
“See you later”

Regulus writes one last letter, if you can even call it that. He gives it to his owl and watches it fly off for the last time before stepping into a cold and dark cave. One last shaky breath. Goodbye.
***
“Goodbye”
Sirius falls to the floor. He can’t breathe. Why can’t he breathe?
His little brother sent him this. His little brother said goodbye. His little brother is dead. he couldn’t save him. He was supposed to save him. His favorite star is dead.
***
“Goodbye” is all Sirius says when he visits the empty grave that is his brother’s.
