Summary

Note
These notes are from when I wrote the fic, not from today (oct 9th 2024) all I'll add is it's my birthday!! Happy Birthday to me, and sorry I posted day 1 and 2 of moonchaser week lateI've always liked that prompt for domestic scenes that's just like the couple in one room, and I thought it could be fun for moonchaser. As usual, fuck JKR. She's just an all round harmful piece of work. I didn't write this in support of her, and I certainly don't support her harmful views and beliefs. The good news is, nobody gets any money from me writing fanfic! Trans James Potter showed up and I didn't have the heart to kick him out.I am mildly dyslexic, and this was written in sessions without much reading of it, so there could be a few contradictions and spelling or grammatic mistakes ahead. You've been warned.Enjoy :)

The door pushed open. That happened a lot now, since the last owners had moved. The real estate agent, a nice woman that had been around the house many times, lead in a young couple. Two young men stood side by side right in front of the door. The slightly taller one had scars along his face, and lighter brown hair, while the other had glasses and dark fluffy hair.

They looked around appraisingly. The previous owners had taken all the furniture, so the room was bare. They seemed to like it though. The glasses wearer walked over the large window that overlooked the garden and leant on the deep windowsill. The other man chuckled slightly and smiled at his partner's back.

"This room could be used for any number of things," the real estate agent said. "The previous owners used it as an office, though it was briefly a nursery."

"Moony look at this view!" the man in the window called. Moony hummed and walked over, leaning next to him in the window.

"It's pretty," Moony agreed.

"You could use it as an art studio," the other man said, turning around slowly to appraise the rest of the room.

"Or we have it as a guest room," he suggested. The glasses wearing man shrugged, but smiled at him softly. Moony smiled back.

"Shall we continue the tour?" the real estate agent asked. Both men nodded.

The door was pushed open. It had been almost a week since the door had last been opened. A large carboard box floated in, followed by two more. Then the couple from three weeks ago walked in, hand in hand.

"I still think you should have it as an art studio," the glasses wearer said. Moony sighed.

"James," he said, clearly used to that conversation. James huffed but waved a wand around and the boxes opened.

"Let's do this the muggle way," Moony said, grabbing James' wrist. He nodded and tucked his wand away. Together they set to work on unpacking. The first thing they did was pull out the parts for a double bed. It had been a while since the room had been used as an actual bedroom. Even when it had been a nursery the baby spent most of her time in the parents' room, in the next room over. It had been more of a playroom.

"Are you regretting doing this the muggle way yet?" James asked as he awkwardly contorted himself so he could properly attach the end of the bed frame. Moony, sat next to one of the unopened boxes hummed in way of answer. He was sat unpacking the bedding they were going to put on the bed, while James did all the hard work. "Can you pass me the other thing to attach the thing?" James asked. Moony snorted but reached over for other small allen key. With a silent, wandless, spell he sent it floating towards James.

"Here," Moony said as it reached him.

"Thanks love," James said. Moony hummed again. Most of his attention was on his partner. He was shirtless, the effects of moving and building a double bed in the harsh summer heat with no fans around to help cool him down.

Moony did eventually help, more so with the lighter things and not the heavy furniture. James didn't seem to mind though.

The couple did spend some time making out on the freshly made, freshly built, bed before they left. Though Moony made sure to return it to pristine condition before they did. They left the door pushed too as they left.

Moony pushed the door open, followed by James and a floating Henry Hoover. The hoover settled onto the carpet beside James.

"So, cleaning," Moony said, looking around the room. They'd sort of been neglecting the room, after all they didn't have much use for a guest room. All their friends had homes, and there was always a way to get people home.

A thin layer of dust had settled over everything, and there were a few spiderwebs in the corner. It almost looked like a perfect set for a cheap haunted house.

"You dust, I hoover," James said. Moony nodded and kissed his cheek. He pulled a duster from James' back pocket and looked around. After another moment of the couple just standing there staring at everything, they got started.

James started hoovering by the door, and Moony started the dusting at the other side of the room. They worked in tandem, almost like they'd built a good routine together for it. They probably had, there were a decent amount of rooms in the house. It wasn't hard to build a cleaning routine with each other.

They worked smoothly together, returning the room to the clean haven it had been the day they'd sorted it out.

James pushed open the door and dramatically brandished the feather duster around. Moony snorted as he followed him in, also with a feather duster.

"You're ridiculous," Moony said, poking James with the handle of the feather duster.

"You're the one dating me," James said, grinning at him. Moony shook his head.

"We have to dust, Pete needs a place to stay for a few nights," he said. James pouted at him and Moony sighed. He kissed him softly and quick. As he pulled away James tried to follow but Moony spun out of the way to start with the dusting.

"You're so mean to me," James said, even as he started dusting the bedside table.

Fresh bedding floated in through the bedroom door and James grabbed it. He left his duster on the bedside table and Moony joined him in stripping the bed. They worked together easily, moving like it was routine for them. Moony shook the duvet out as James fought to get the pillows into their cases.

With the freshly made bed sorted, and made up neatly, James turned to battle the dusting. Moony leant against the wardrobe and watched him move around the room with a feather duster.

"Are you even helping?" James asked, not glancing back. Moony laughed slightly and grabbed his feather duster from James' back pocket.

"I am now," he said twirling the feather duster around in his hand. James glanced back at him, and shook his head.

Moony grinned at him, and stretched up to dust the top of the wardrobe while James watched him.

"You're staring Mr Potter," Moony said. James laughed slightly.

"You were staring first Mr Lupin," James said. Moony shrugged at him.

The couple finished up cleaning and left.

The next time the door pushed open, it was a different man. Slightly chubby and squat, but clearly friendly with James and Moony. He slept in the room for three days before he left.

The room didn't get used often. James and Moony would come in every once in a while to clean, and then they'd leave again.

The door pushed open, and instead of the Henry Hoover and feather dusters, the couple came in with a tool kit. It was like they preferred doing things the hard way despite having spells for nearly everything. James headed towards the bed, while Moony turned to the wardrobe.

"Trade?" James asked, glancing over to him. Moony nodded.

"I'll be better at taking apart the bed anyway," Moony agreed. James handed him the small tool kit and turned to the wardrobe. They kept their out of season coats and jackets in there. And some summer stuff that only came out once in a while.

Moony sat on the bed and watched James as he started to drag the wardrobe. He watched his partner struggle with the heavy wardrobe. James did his best to drag it towards the door. Eventually though, after watching it wobble precariously, Moony shook his head.

"James my love," Moony said.

"Yes Remus my dear," he said.

"You have a wand in your back pocket," Remus reminded him. James scrunched his face up and thought about it, not sure what that had to do with anything. It was like a light bulb went off, because he suddenly grabbed for his wand and backed up slightly.

"There we go," he mumbled as James waved his wand and uttered a spell. The wardrobe started to float slightly and he backed out of the room.

When James returned, he was wardrobe-less. Remus stood from the bed and James went over to him. They worked together to strip the bed down. James waved his wand and all the bedding, duvet included, floated out the door.

Despite having magic at their disposal, they worked together to lift the mattress off the bed frame. James, without the help of Remus, moved it to lean against the wall where the wardrobe had been.

Remus turned to the other furniture in the room, and started to move it out. James didn't help him with that, instead he set about taking apart the bedframe. Despite Remus having said he'd do it. Neither of them seemed to care though.

Everything was moved out of the room.

It didn't stay empty for long. Two desks were moved in. The space was turned into an art room and mini office. An easel faced out to the window, and there were shelves of art supplies next to it. There was a desk pushed into the corner, a small one. Neatly sat out atop it were sketchbooks.

On the other side of the room the wall was lined with bookshelves. There was a small gap in the shelves for the other desk, and a painting of the night sky during a crescent moon. Books filled the shelves, and an old fashioned type writer sat on the desk.

The room saw more use after that. Remus was in and out almost daily, usually to sit by the window with one of his many sketchbooks. James was in there regularly too, sat with a book by the window, or hunched over his desk.

It was nice to have them both there.

Remus was sat at his own desk, sketching out an idea in one of his many sketchbooks. James was sat by the window, a notebook propped against his leg. At some point he'd started humming, and Remus seemed content with it.

It was a moment of peace, just the two of them together. They didn't really interact, but it was just as sweet as anything else they did.

The office had lasted a while. But, apparently, it couldn't last forever. They took down everything. It felt like it should have been a sad moment, they'd spent so much time together in the room as a couple, yet they worked with smiles and gentle music.

For a chance Remus did most of the heavy lifting, he insisted on it. James tried to help, but Remus fretted over him.

"You're five months pregnant, sit down and let me handle this," Remus said. James shrugged as he dragged a desk towards the door.

"And it was a full moon four nights ago, go rest," James shot back. He shook his head and practically dragged him to rest by the window.

"I'm rested, it wasn't even a bad night. You on the other hand," he said. James huffed but didn't fight him any further. He relaxed in the chair and watched Remus drag furniture out of the room. Very little of it got taken apart.

Most everything got removed by Remus, without the use of magic. It was like they preferred to do hard work.

Once the only furniture left in the room was James' chair, Remus brought in paint and old sheets to protect the floor. Remus pushed the windows wide open, and they started painting the walls. Previously it had been a deeper red, with the odd paint splash from Remus' painting.

Now though it was sky blue. Remus painted white clouds onto the wall too. Birds joined the decorations.

The sun had started to set by the time they dragged boxes in. They'd deal with it all the next day.

The room had become a nursery. Babies were so cute, and they needed so much extra care. It was a pretty one, with a nature theme to the decorations. The blue wall had been joined by three green ones, each with different animal decals.

The crib had animals carved into it, and looked much too expensive for a piece of furniture the future kid would outgrow and forget. There were two rocking chairs by the window, a toy chest in the corner, a nappy changing table against the wall.

They had everything two new, and expectant, parents could imagine shoving into a nursery. Life was going to get a bit more complicated in the coming months, but it didn't seem like either James or Remus were too concerned. If they did have doubts or fears, they didn't express them in the nursery.
