‘I hate Halloween’
‘You hate everything, how can you tell the difference?’
‘I do not hate everything.’
‘You most certainly do.’
‘Name three things I hate, besides Halloween’
‘Let me see…Christmas of course, happy couples and social gatherings of any sort.’
His companion was not wrong of course. He did hate all of those things and for good reason.
He also hated that his companion was right, as usual, and was extremely smug about the fact.
‘Remind me again why we ever hooked up in the first place?’ he asked the annoyingly confident and exceptionally handsome man beside him.
‘I’m afraid you have to blame my mother, or Dumbledore, or your good-for-nothing-father, for that one,’ Sirius replied.
‘I liked it better when you claimed it was ‘in the cards’ as foretold by that Tarot deck you nearly flung around the room when you first invited me in,’ Snape said.
‘I don’t rightly remember inviting you,’ Sirius responded, ‘It was more a case of you loitering with intent outside of my bedroom door, after my mother sent you up.’
He remembered that fateful day as if it was yesterday.
‘Anyway, whether you like Halloween or not, we have to make an appearance at the Potters tonight. Regulus will have my guts for garters if I don’t bring him along, especially as James is too cowardly to invite just him.’
‘Fine, but I won’t dress up as one of your ancestors in drag. That
Vulture hat and cat-stole and green dress smelling of moth-balls are just too frightful.’
‘You can always wear your black leather PJs and that black hero-mask,’ Sirius replied, only half serious.
‘Why in Merlin’s name would I do that? My PJs are my business.’
‘Another thing to add to the list of things you hate,’ Sirius remarked with a grin.
‘You make it sound like I am some sort of Scrooge character,’ Snape grumbled.
‘It is not as if I hate everything, you know.’
He paused.
‘In fact, I like…
The way you make me feel
You really turn me on
You knock me off of my feet
My lonely days are gone
Here, Severus Snape, paused self-consciously.
What the hell. In for a penny, in for a pound, he thought.
I like this feelin' you're givin' me
Just hold me, baby, and I'm in ecstasy
Oh, I'll be workin' from nine to five
To buy you things to keep you by my side
I never felt so in love before
Just promise, baby, you'll love me forevermore
I swear I'm keepin' you satisfied
’Cause you're the one for me
Sirius looked at his companion dumbfounded. Where did this come from? He had not expected this declaration of … what exactly?
Severus liked that, for once, he seemed to have caught Sirius off guard. Having the upper hand, he continued…
The way you make me feel
You really turn me on
You knock me off of my feet
My lonely days are gone
‘Well, I guess we know who you’ll be dressing up as,’ Sirius said when he finally had recovered from the shock of seeing Snape gyrating his hips in front of him, while professing his feelings in song.
He tried to imagine Severus in a red leather jacket with one gloved hand and a fedora perched on his head.
Boy, oh boy, this was going to be a Halloween he wouldn’t soon forget.
