Is he staring or glaring?
“He's staring at you again mate” - Ron said while trying to not choke on his food for the fifth time.
“Who?" Harry asked distractedly. He couldn’t take his eyes off of a certain someone as well.
"Who else do you think? Tom bloody Riddle of course.” Ron answered. "He’s been staring at you ever since you entered the Great Hall. Any idea why?”
To others it looked like staring, but Harry knew probably better than anyone that Riddle was glaring at him. It was all because he had rejected to join his “political group” as Riddle liked to call. Seriously, who was he fooling? Surely, even Dippet had to know that what Riddle’s free time activities were shady and he was abusing his power as a Prefect. However, he didn’t do anything because Riddle's "perfect student" mask always stayed on. It was driving Harry crazy to be the only one to notice how fake his personality was. Even Ron and Hermione seemed to disagree with him, but-
“Hey, Harry are you listening?" Hermione asked impatiently.
Harry’s attention snapped to her instantly. "Sorry, what were you saying?"
“Our Potions lesson starts in 10 minutes. You might want to hurry, unless you want Snape to humiliate you in front of Slytherins."
No matter how indifferent Hermione tried to act towards Slytherins, Harry knew that Hermione labored negative feelings towards them because of their terrible attitude towards Gryffindors, especially Harry. It made Harry happy for his friends to care for him, but now wasn’t the time to dwell on the feeling. They were going to be late if they didn’t hurry up soon.
As soon as he rose from the table, he saw Riddle do the same. Weird, was Riddle waiting for him the whole time? 'No' Harry tried to convince himself. 'It was probably just a coincidence'.
Pleased with this thought, Harry, Ron and Hermione hurried to the dungeons and from the corner of his eye, he saw Riddle speeding up a bit to catch up to them. He had a feeling that something bad would happen in Potions, so he wanted it to end as soon as possible.
For the first time ever, Harry found himself promising to behave.
He had a feeling he would break his own promise.
