Regulus’ Last Letter (to James)
Summary
Regulus’ last letter to James before the cave

Dated: 19th July 1979

My dear Jamie,

If all goes to plan, I will be dead by the time you read this. I have a few requests to ask you.

Do not tell my brother of what I have done. I do not want him to dwell on past experiences we missed out on. Keep him in the dark about everything, even our relationship. I love you however I do not want him to go through the heartbreak of this. Let him hate me. It’ll be easier.

Make sure Luna is safe. Pandora is planning something, but I need you to keep watch over Luna from a distance. If it looks too dangerous for her, step in. I do not want Pandora to do something she will regret because she is grieving. Luna is the priority, she is the next generation.

Do not let anyone stop fighting for what is right. I know you have a problem with doing what you think is right, and most of the time i find that annoying. Now, however, at this time, put your stubbornness to good use.

Do not trust Dumbledore. He uses people as soldiers. He may seem like he cares, but he does not.

I cannot tell you much in this letter. I am truly sorry that I couldn’t follow up on my promises. I truly did mean it when I said I would run away with you after the war was over, all those years ago. However, I am doing this so you will be happier, so you can live the life you wish.

Do not mourn me too long. Move on. I know you love Lily, you don’t have to deny yourself of love and happiness for me. Go, live a long and full life, do not linger on what could’ve been. Do not wait on something that will never come.

What little I can tell you is this: I am defying Voldemort. Tomorrow, I will be dead. There is no way to stop me from doing this, as by the time you get this letter, I will be too far away for help. I want to do this. It is my duty.

Please, stop loving me, but don’t forget me.

Your Reggie
