The future remains unknown
But fate always has a way
Of controlling the outcome
James watches Sirius run amuck in the library, the usually angry house elf following swiftly behind him, levitating a stack of books over top his head with a determined glint in his aging eyes. Sirius looked much the same but in a frantic sort of determined frenzy. The Potter boy felt anxiety creep up behind him as he recalls Lily’s words just a few days ago;
“Sirius has never been one to do something halfway, James. I’m worried that this…this myth, will drive him into a corner. A breaking point. His brother is dead, that’s the end of the story. You need to do something.”
“What would you have me do, Lily?”
“Talk to him James.. You’re the only one who can.”
While he completely gets it, of course he does, James isn’t sure he should.
And part of him doesn’t want to.
“Sirius is changing James and I don’t think you want to accept it. He’s different and it’s all because of a fable”
”Lily, before you came to Hogwarts, wasn’t magic nothing but a fantasy?”
She had nothing to say to that except a heavy huff and an eye roll, but her worry continued to shine through.
Sirius has been nothing but a former shell of who he was since their last Order meeting went up in smoke. The flames of many Order members’ rage engulfing the room and Sirius throwing gasoline into the fey wasn’t an ideal situation to be in or much less a part of. But now, that familiar spark he’d usually see in Sirius is coming back and so what if the reason for it is a little unorthodox? His best mate didn’t look like he was seconds away from breaking down into hysterics or rushing off into battle just to take the edge off.
James shudders at the thought of either happening as unpleasant memories flash through him.
So with a deep inhale, James goes to step further into the library but is startled by Sirius.
“James.”
Said man looks up, neck cracking with the swiftness of it as he makes eye contact with Sirius who had only moments ago looked to be completely occupied by his search. He didn’t notice the way Sirius shifted his eyes to the blank space beside him.
James wonders how Sirius picked up on his presence so fast.
“Sirius,” James smiles. “What on earth are you doing?”
But Sirius only stares at his best friend, looking as though he was listening but not to James.
“The house let you in?”
The question shocks James, “Yes? Remember, you updated the wards.” He furrows his brows in concerned confusion. “Why are you asking me that anyways? You, me, and Moony..we did it together mate.”
Silence takes over the room, again, although Sirius is staring directly at James it doesn’t seem he’s listening to him at all.
“I changed them back.”
James felt his chest constrict.
”You did what?”
