Merry Christmas
Christmas special
It was finally Christmas, the time when Hogwarts was the most lively. Decorations galore, trees around every corner, floating candles, enchanted snow that felt like the real thing but wouldn't pile up on the floor, or drop the temperature. And, school break. Meaning that all of the students who chose to stay over on the holidays, had no work to do and instead caused trouble, I suddenly captured a blurry mass of a figure flapping about in the corner of my eye. I direct my gaze up towards the commotion. Right now seems like a prime example.
“How did you even get up there?” I yelled, in an attempt to ensure that the volume of my voice could reach the vicinity of his ears.
“I was just trying to use a levitation spell, so that I could reach high enough to put a decoration on the tree, and something went wrong,” they blabbered, suddenly caught off guard by a teacher's presence.
“What have I repeatedly told you? Don't cast a spell you're not proficient at without adult supervision! What if your classmate wasn't here to stop you from falling? You'd be in the medic wing at best, and St Mungo’s at worst. That's 10 points from Hufflepuff.”
Getting them down was easy enough, a simple leviosa did the trick.
“Now, be on your way and don't make that mistake again.”
“Yes Profesor Sìleas. It won't happen again,” he replied apologetically.
An annoyingly familiar voice made its way towards me.
“What happened this time?”
It was Sev, and he had a cup of coffee in his hand.
“Thanks, and the kid just tried using a levitation spell, but overshot and went higher up than intended.”
“Was it the same kid that almost knocked out Filch after mispronouncing a spell and sent a book flying at him, with a staggering amount of speed?” The look of sheer exasperation on his face told me he was reliving the moment in his head.
“Yep. If he keeps it up he'll end up being as bad as the Weasley twins.”
“God forbid.”
The rest of the day ended up being rather uneventful. So it was to be expected that the night wouldn't be.
“Harry, is there a reason you're at the astronomy tower this late at night?”
“Gah! You scared me! And yes there is, I'm here to give you a gift.”
“A gift? This late?”
“I would have given it to you sooner, but couldn't find the right opportunity.”
“Well get to it, I still have papers to grade and a headache that won't go away.”
“It’s a bit tacky and nowhere near the level of your family jewellery, but i hope you like it.”
It was a small and surprisingly neatly wrapped box, the weight made it particularly hard to gauge its contents. It felt rude to just rip the wrapping paper off, since Harry had obviously taken time to make it neat, so it took me longer than expected. I was expecting a myriad of items, but the fine cut blue crystal lined with silver was not one of them.
“They’re for your glasses,” Harry said. “I was thinking about what to get you and decided to undertake some research, I ended up coming across these things called eyeglass chains, and…yeah.”
“So that’s what the clasp is for.”
It was easily attached to the arm of my glasses. The chain made it so that the diamond wouldn't knock into, and damage the lenses. In all intents and purposes, it was perfect.
“Thank you Harry. It's lovely. Now get back to your room before I give you detention.”
“Right, sorry. Good night Sìleas.”
