Snape's Summer

Regret.

That was something Severus Snape was feeling. Anger, too. Anything to describe what he was feeling right now.

No. Was what he had been told, when he sent the adoption application to the Ministry. It didn't even reach the Yokohama government. He was simply told no.

'No, having the Demon still attending Hogwarts is bad enough. Having him still in the magical world, or in the world at all is dangerous.' Is what the Ministry meant, when they said no. And Dazai had been sent home to the Port Mafia. To the kennels. To something abusive. Something abusive that he, Minerva, and Poppy all tried to get him out of.

Poppy.

She died along with the other purification victims. And Severus couldn't complete her dying wish of being able to liberate Dazai.

Poppy's death. Dazai returning to a muggle mafia. One would think that being trapped with these thoughts for two months would drive him insane. But with Professor– no, now Headmistress McGonagall's help, he managed to stay just barely sane.

It was hard for both of them now, with both Poppy and Dumbledore gone.

Minerva had hired a new matron, and a new Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor. Much to Severus' pleasure, grief, and annoyance.

He was glad Gilderoy was gone, but wasn't happy about Remus Lupin joining either. And as much as he wanted the job of the Dark Arts, no one would fill in for potions.

Hagrid had also been appointed the professor of Care of Magical Creatures. Which was equally fitting as it was dangerous.

And now, they had Sirius Black breaking loose from Azkaban.

Without Dumbledore, the magical world had no one to look to for hope. Despite always talking about the 'bigger picture' and neglecting an abused child in front of his face, the wizarding world was in big disorder without him.

And the wizards had no idea of what to think of Dazai either, after killing the Basilisk. Was he good? Was he still a Demon?

Most people often took the Demon story, still. Some were more afraid of him than before.

They couldn't keep the Basilisk under wraps because of the deaths of the victims. Which they felt the loss deeply, but this made many people lose trust in Hogwarts.

So much had happened last school year and over the summer, Severus hoped nothing happened this year. But with Black escaping, Remus and Hagrid coming to teach, and his Problem Child? Something was bound to happen.
