Canvas Full of Waves

Lily was getting more and more frustrated by the second. She’s trying to paint the sunset by the ocean but something about is just wrong. Her art room overlooks the tide so it’s easy for her to get realistic inspiration.

She sets her palette down with an annoyed grunt and leaves the room.

“What’s wrong with you?”

Petunia asks as soon as Lily makes it in the kitchen.

“Nothing.”

Lily has tried explaining art to her sister and how it’s much more complexed then most people would think, but Petunia just doesn’t get it.

Petunia gives her sister a pointed look.

“Ughh nothing is wrong Tunie. Just leave it.”

Lily flops down in a chair at the island and lays her head on her hands.

“Ok fine! No need for the dramatics.”

Tunie rolls her eyes at her.

Lily stays silent for a bit while Petunia continues making dinner.

“Are you making stew?” Lily already knows the answer, of course. She could smell it from her art studio.

Petunia doesn’t look up from the pot when she replies

“I literally told you earlier that I was.”

And back to silence.

“Hey,”

Petunia starts out of nowhere.

“Me and some of the girls from the Café are going down to the bonfire later, are you coming with?”

Now at this, lily is taken aback. Her sister never asks her to go somewhere unless she gets something out of it.

“Why?”

There’s a bit of bite to her tone but she has every right to be skeptical.

Petunia spins around to face her but their eyes don’t meet. And she looks… nervous?

“Well.. uhm..”

“Well? Spit it out.”

Petunia rolls her eyes

“I want you to meet Vernon.”

She says it so fast, It takes Lily a second to process.

The it hits her.

“Vernon? Like your boyfriend? The one you met at the café?” She sits up in her chair.

“Yes what other Vernon would I know?”

Tunie snaps at her; finally making eye contact.

Lily holds her hands up in surrender.

“Ok jeez sorry. Why do you think a bonfire is the best place for this? You’re the kind of girl who would want a fancy posh dinner or something.”

“I’ll be doing that with Mum and Dad obviously.”

“Oh am I not special enough for that? I have to meet him at a beach party?”

Lily raises an eyebrow.

“No it’s just..” Petunia’s quiet for a moment. “I really want you to like him so I need you to meet him before everyone else.”

Oh. This is very out of character. Petunia is usually all snobby and prends like she is the queen of England, but right now she looks like the big sister that used to play dolls with her in her bedroom.

Lily’s face softens

“Yea.”

Petunia looks at her with question.

“Yea?” She speaks softly

“Yea all come meet your boyfriend, Tunie.”
