Regulus
Regulus Black was sad.
In fact, he was truly in pain.
Before all of it, he never showed his emotions, he never showed anything. He was a quiet boy, always in the shadows, observing others.
Sirius was the trouble one, the kid who didn’t want to become like his family, he got sorted in Gryffindor; got new cool friends.
And Regulus didn’t understand; why his brother had to be different?
Why he had to messed up with their parents?
Why he had to give up all his life to became another person?
Why he had to left him alone in this chaotic family?
Why he had to hate him?
Regulus was quiet, cold and silent. He was close to Sirius when they were children, but growing up made Regulus understand that he didn’t want to look alike Sirius, he saw his brother go through so much pain, that he promised himself he’s never going to be like him. Maybe this promise starts the gap between the two brothers or maybe not, but the point was; when Regulus entered Hogwarts, he and Sirius didn’t talk to each other. They learnt to avoid themselves during six years, and when Sirius sneaked out of the house definitely, Regulus didn’t say anything, because he thought he has no right to interfered with Sirius’ decision; they didn’t exchange any word in the last two years.
Regulus never wanted to suffer, but it wasn’t his parents’ decision.
Orion and Walpurga Black were cruel, cold hearted and didn’t care about the mental and physical health of their children, all they wanted was to be the most powerful family in the Wizards’ world, and they were. The Noble House of Black was an illustrious family of Wizards through the years, everyone knows them and everyone know they always were interested in dark magic. Orion kept a genealogical tree at the first floor of the house, when a child was born in the Black Family, the tree made a new branch to kept a mark of the child in the family. It was an incredible work made by Phineas Nigellus Black, the great-grandfather of Orion and Walpurga.
“Toujours Pur” was the maxim of the Black family, but it was just on the surface, because when you take a closer look on the tree, you be able to see errors on it. You be able to see Lucretia Black, Orion’s sister, that married Ignatius Prewett, a pureblood less rich than the Black. You also be able to see that some of the family members were cross out, like Regulus’s cousin Andromeda or his brother; Sirius. When someone was deleted from the tree, it meant it was a treason, an insult, a proof that the person was no longer a part of the Black family.
Regulus never wanted love and affection; he didn’t know what it felt like to be loved because his parents didn’t know this emotion either.
But Love seemed to want Regulus.
Through the years, Regulus knew two types of love.
The first one was the friendship with four people, four outsiders, rejected by their pairs. He met the two first at a family dinner with a lot of members of the Black family; they were twins with blond hair and beautiful blue eyes; Evan and Pandora Rosier. They were the children of Medea Rosier, the sister of Drusilla Rosier which was the mother of Regulus’s three cousins: Bellatrix, Narcissa and Andromeda Black.
Evan was a loud and turbulent kid, who was slap by his mother in front of everyone when he broke a vase. No one did anything, because in the Black family, violence on kids wasn’t a surprise. But Regulus liked Pandora, she was sweet, calm, observer just like him and when Evan disappeared in the garden, Regulus followed Pandora who was looking for her brother. He finds her hugging him and telling him that’s everything was gonna be okay, that their mother didn’t understand how much her son was amazing. At this exact moment, Regulus knew that these two kids were going to be his best friends, even if he was only nine.
Then, Regulus started Hogwarts and of course, he was sorted in Slytherin. Slytherin was the Hogwarts’s House that welcomed every member of the Black family, except Sirius. But Regulus wasn’t like his brother, he was better than him, in fact he didn’t have to do much effort to became one of the smartest students in the wizarding school, success was natural for him. Orion and Walpurga were proud, in their way, which meant that they look at him with a dark satisfaction.
The first time he walked in the Slytherin common room, Regulus felt like home, and it wasn’t a good thing. But sweet Pandora and loud Evan were also sorted in Slytherin, relieving this punishment. Evan and him were in the same room, with two others boys. One of them was named Caius Avery Jr; he was thin with brown straight hair and dark rings under his eyes. They shared a bedroom but Avery never wanted to be part of their group, he preferred hanging out with a one-year older boy named Severus Snape.
The second boy was also named after his father, it was Barty Crouch Jr.
Barty was agitated, crazy and didn’t find interesting to think before doing something foolish. He was tall for an eleven boy, with deep green eyes. At first, Regulus doesn’t like him but Evan does and they were inseparable. Regulus didn’t feel left out, he liked his solitude and one day, when he was studying in the library with the two boys, Barty was helping Evan with a Transfiguration essay because he doesn’t need to study to be one of the most brilliant students of Hogwarts. This day was the one when Regulus decided that he liked Barty, because the annoying James Potter was studying not far from them, with Sirius and two others boys. Regulus hated James, because when Sirius came home during vacations of his first year, he only talked about how James Potter was awesome, funny, cool and others things that Regulus forgot deliberately. At the end of the week, Regulus realized that he was not spending time with his brother, he was spending time with James Potter. Maybe Barty saw the dark gaze that Regulus offer to James, because when the Slytherins decided to return to their dorm, Barty accidentally dropped his inkpot on James’s parchment.
This action sealed Barty and Regulus friendship.
Three years after, when they were in their four years at Hogwarts, the trio became a quatuor thanks to the arrival of Dorcas Meadows in their life. She was a black girl that Regulus only known for her spectacular grades, and when they met her, she was angry. Sirius Black and his silly friends publicly humiliated her in front of everyone in the park by levitating her and throwing her on the Black Lake. Pandora tried to comfort her, but Dorcas was furious and strangely, Regulus was the one able to calm her, just because he insulted the four Gryffindors with his charming management of words.
The second type of love he known was the most precious to him, but he was not ready to think about it.
He was not ready to think about anything.
He was not ready to take the Source.
He was not ready to come home.
He was not ready to defeat the Dark Lord.
He was not there.
