The Golden Trio takes the O.W.L.s during their fifth year. In the book, shortly before this, there is the Quidditch match in which Harry cannot participate because Umbridge has banned him. This story takes place a few days before that match. If you remember, it is around the same time when the Weasley twins ran away, and for those who have read the books, they also involved Peeves, while both students and teachers contributed in their own ways.
